This general history discusses the Fatimid origins in Shiism and the Ismailite branches of Shiism, the Qarmatians, expansion of the sect into North Africa, rise to power as a Caliphate in Kairawan (873 - 966), and the conquest of Egypt, as well as the history of the Fatimid dynasty there until Saladin finished off the last ruler in 1171. Despite being out of date, it is a useful work for the student, written in semi-popular style and not too technical, but based on original sources
