Posted February 25th, 2010 by heritageAgha Khan University's Centre of English Language Karachi has won British Council commendation World Aware Business Award 2002 in recognition of its services for promoting English language in back areas of Gilgit, Chitral and Tajikistan.This reward was received by Sabahat Khan Tartari, senior member of the Agha Khan university and Associate Prof Muhammad Zafar of Centre of English Language from a senior official of the British Council. Sabahat and Prof Zafar are currently doing their post-graduation from WarWick university in the United Kingdom.

Shades of Shergar as Aga rules again with Alamshar - 2003-07-26
Posted February 25th, 2010 by heritageAlamshar produced an exemplary performance to trounce a smart field in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot, winning by three-and-a-half lengths from Sulamani, with the Derby winner, Kris Kin, a further two lengths away in third to give the Aga Khan his second winner of the race following Shergar in 1981. Johnny Murtagh always had Alamshar in the ideal position, tracking Nayef's pacemaker, Izdiham, into the home straight. Murtagh said: 'The horse did a great job.

The 5-2 favourite, owned by the Aga Khan and trained by John Oxx, beat 50-1 chance - and perennial Group One bridesmaid Norse Dancer by 1

Every now and then, a dollop of patience pays off, too.
On Saturday at Ascot, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond stakes turned into a battle between two guys with plenty of money and more than a little luck, leaving patience to tip the balance.
Alamshar, a 3-year-old colt, the result of 80 years of breeding by the Aga Khan's family, beat Sulamani, a 4-year-old colt that Sheik Mohammed al-Maktoum bought late last year.

Died: 12 May, 2003, in Boston, aged 70
PRINCE Sadruddin Aga Khan was a wealthy philanthropist who held a string of top UN humanitarian posts and was the uncle of the spiritual leader of Shia Ismaili Muslims.
He started his long career with the United Nations as an adviser to UNESCO on Afro-Asian projects. He was the youngest and longest-serving UN High Commissioner for Refugees, taking over the post in 1965 at the age of 33 and staying in the job for 12 years.

Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan chose a career in politics, that was to see him rise almost to the top of the United Nations, and to devote much of his life to global environmental causes. Born in 1933, he was the second son of the late Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan, the 48th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Shia Muslims, and the late Princess Andrée Aga Khan. He was also the uncle of Karim Aga Khan IV, the current Imam.
