Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan was one of very few radical statespeople whose principal interest in the late 20th century was the troubled state of the planet. It was a small group, clinging to the belief that the failure of governments to come to terms with the harsh realities of the times was relevant to the use – or the non-use – of the United Nations. For years internationalism was unfashionable and unpopular but it was to this cause that Sadruddin, who was born to great wealth and privilege, devoted his energy.

A 3-year-old Darshaan colt trained by Alain de Royer Dupre, Dalakhani won eight of nine career starts, including four group I races, before being retired at the conclusion of his 2003 campaign.
