jeene e maarag keeyaa kabul
peechhe kabahee na hove malul.....................................1
Those who accept this path never become unhappy.
kahe tu(n) kalmaa nabee e rasul
doe jugme hove makabul............................................2
Recite the Kalima of the Prophet and the Messenger, you will be accepted in both worlds.
shareeat kee jo raahaa na maane
a(n)dhlaa(adanaa) hae vo kiyaa peechhaane.........................3
If one does not believe in the way of the Shariah, how can such a blind person get himself to understand(the higher mysteries).
jo e bujan buj na maane
so kiyaa saar nabeekee jaane......................................4 
If a comprehending person cannot bring himself to believe this(the Shariah), how can he/she ever know the essence of the Prophet.
yaa mukhthee jo munakar hove
so ut kiyaa paave eetahee khove...................................5
If you turn away from the Guide, then how will you achieve there in the hereafter and you will indeed lose everything here.
pett bharee jeeyu(n) murakh?(mukataa) sove
hef kaam jo apanaa khove..........................................6
If you eat your fill then sleep will engulf you and will lose the ability to perform your essential work(ibadat).
amar nabeekaa jo nahi maane
baheraa hae vo keeyaa suna jaane..................................7
Those who do not heed to the Prophet's teachings are truly deaf.
aage ku(n) to chit na aanne
kayaa huaa jo peechhe pachhattaanne...............................6
If you did not give thought to these matters before, of what use is it to regret afterwards.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   jeene ehee shabad na maaniyaa
   un peechhe mat dodd re;
   eet unaku(n) shobhaa nahee,
   ut nahi paave tthora re......................................XII
O you, ... Do not run after those who have paid no heed to these words. That have not had respect in this world nor will they have an abode there in the next.

PART THIRTEEN



jab ehee paddade utthake? (ukadd) jaave
jutth saach sanamukh paave(aave)..................................1
When this veil is lifted, the truth about what is false and what is true reveals itself.
utathee chaahe fir eet aave
fir yeh samaa na firu(n) paave....................................2
When a person attains the exalted state and then returns here, he does not get the opportunity again.

second version:
uta gayaa nahee uta fir aave
raaha khudaai paave
And when one reaches the place of no return, he attains the path to salvation.
nishdin zhure bahot(aap) pachhattaave
tohu raahaa nabeekee paave........................................3
When a person languishes day and night in repentence, he then attains the path of the Prophet.
jo sa(n)gat eesakee jaave
sab savaad apanaa bataave.........................................4
When you stay in His company, he gives you the taste of all his sweetnesses.
kaatte(ttaa) haath ne bahot pachhattaave
eso haal bohor na paave...........................................5
If you do not then your life is wasted without a purpose.
"man lahul mawlaa"("maal halaal mawlaa") kee gat paave
jo sa(n)gat sufee kee jaave.......................................6
The ones who attain the stage of "belonging to Mawlaa",get into the path of Sufism.
vae myaanasu aap gamaave
"fa lahul kull" kaa rutabaa paave.................................7
And if one forgets himself, attains the stage of "he has everything".
second version:
ve maayaasu aap gamaave
to fila haal kul maratabaa paave
The one who detaches himself from this illussory existence, attains all the stages(heavens).
jo bhajan karatahee aap gamaave
to piyaasu(n) misaree dudh jiyu(n) mil jaave......................8
If one loses himself in devotional hymns, he in relation to the beloved is like sugar mixing with milk to make it sweet.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   lakaddee shakal shareer kar,
   gur misaree sa(n)g laae re;
   sa(n)gat ke gunn kaaranne,
   so misaree tol beekaaere....................................XIII
O You, ... Just as a sugar-cane stem is valued more than an ordinary stem or stick, similarly make your body more precious by incorporating in it your Guide's farmaan so that it stands out from among other bodies.

PART FOURTEEN



mahenat kar kar jo kuchh laave
lok kuttu(m)bsu(n) aadh battaave..................................1
Whatever you earn(after toiling hard), half of it should be spent on your family.
aadh naam allaah khilaave
khaadam(tawbaadam) hoee mukhadumee paave..........................2
And the other half, spend in for Allah and with repentent attitude attain granter of repentance.
lekhaa kaarann jaaku(n) aave
sabathee pahele baheshtame jaave..................................3
When such a momin comes for accountability, he will first of all go to heaven. Variant: If you calculate so then you will have calculated the path to heaven.
eeyaa(n)thee maayaa mul luttaave
tab vo naam fakeer kahaave........................................4
When a person becomes thus detached from this illusion, he then can truely be called a renunciant(fakeer). Variant: Money is an attachment and its sacrifice will show that you have love for the Imaam.
jo koee ger sharaethee bhaage
aadhee raat paachhlee jaage.......................................5
People who transcend from being Shariati endeavour to wake up in the morning.
savaa pahor japtapsu(n) laage
peechhe kaam maayaasu(n) laage....................................6
They meditate for one and a quarter pahors(approx. 3-4 hrs) and thereafter start their day.
bhukh maar aabid(badan) kahaave
maayaaku(n) din raat na dheeyaave.................................7
The ones who curb their hunger(material desires) are regarded as real slaves. They are not involved with attachment to this illusory existence day and night.
nis din saghalaa taaetme(n) jaave
aabidkaa tab martabaa paave.......................................8
When a person's day and night is passed in the essential aspect(ibadat and submission), he/she is then regarded as having attained the status of a slave.
re tu(n)hee(n), ...
   alee samare alee paaee-e,
   alee samare sukh ho-e;
   nipatt neekatt jo alee vase,
   pann alee samarat nahi koee re...............................XIV
O You, ... If you remember Aly, you attain Aly. Through remembrance of Aly peace is attained. Though Aly is very close, nobody remembers Aly.

PART FIFTEEN



naa muja rupa naa gun kachhu(n) saaee(n)
kaese kahu(n) piyaa muj ghar aaee.................................1
I do not possess that form nor that virtue. Then how can I speak about the Beloved arriving at my home. i.e. I do not possess the ability to describe the nature of the Beloved.
toku(n) toh mayaasu(n) paau(n)
karu(n) vadhaaee ma(n)gal gaau(n).................................2
It is only through Your grace and mercy that I attain such a state, then I praise you through songs(geets,qasidas,ginaans).
talab kamaal eellaahee aave
kaddavaa meetthaa sam ho jaave....................................3
When one enjoys(or seeks) Divine beauty, sweet and sour seem the same. Variant: When one is immersed in Divine love, then everything seems sweet.
bhalaa buraa to chit na aave
stuti ni(n)daa ekahee paave.......................................4
He becomes indifferent to the good and the evil, and also to praise and slander.
aesaa darad piyaakaa hove
haal kaal apanaa sab khove........................................5
Such is the condition of being with the Beloved, that one loses his/her own speech and consciousness.
second version:
ni(n)daa kharaab hay so mat karanaa
ni(n)daa karane se munivar daranaa................................
Backbiting and slander is bad, so do not indulge in it. A devotee should be afraid of indulging in it.
nis din jur jur pa(n)jar hove
aese pare to taalib hove..........................................6
Day and night he/she pines with self mortifications for the Beloved. When one falls in such condition he becomes a true seeker.
second version:
ni(n)daa kiye so jaave so dharama
upaje sarve sirpar karma
When one indulges in slander and backbiting, he loses the benifits of religion and incurs bad karma.
nisdin bhar jeevan vahaa(n)ee khutte
maaee put eehaa(n) sab chhutte....................................7
In this search his/her days and nights pass and he becomes oblivious to the material conditions around him.
second version:
ni(n)daa thaaye tiyaa besavu nahi
ni(n)daa kaanu se sunavee nahi re
Do not sit where backbiting and slander is taking place and do not hear about slander.
ek eelaahee sabame(n) dekhe
bhalaa buraa kachhu nahee(n) pekhe................................8
He sees the Divine in everybody(thing) and is indifferent to the good and the evil.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   chhutt padde ja(n)jaalthee,(esaa darad piyaakaa hove)
   jeene luttaayaa aap re;
   piyaa kaarann maayaa tajee
   te kaarann pun ne paap re.....................................XV
O You, ... One is indeed freed from the vagaries of time, if one has given himself to the Beloved. He has foresaken this illusory existence for the sake of the Beloved and due to this he becomes indifferent to virtues and vices.

PART SIXTEEN



peechhe haal mujaahed aave
ehee kare je nafas na bhaave......................................1
Afterwards, the person attains the status of a warrior and does activities that are contrary to the lower impulses.
bhalaa buraa ekasaa(n) ho jaave
tab tu(n) haal(lahaa e) mushaahed paave...........................2
When good and evil appear the same, then one has indeed attained the status of a martyr(higher status).
vakhat malaamatkaa jab aave
apane(ni) neki aemaal chheepaave..................................3
When people find faults in you(or slander you), your deeds will reveal your purity.
bure amal paragat cheepaave
tab piyaaku(n) esaa har bhaave....................................4
When you are not afraid of owning up to your wrongdoings, then you become dear to your beloved.
nis din darad piyaake(kaa) jaage
sab lallake utth(sab lattake esaa) peechhe laage..................5
When the love for the Beloved is awakened, everything else would seem trivial in comparison.
piyaa kaarann jeene aap gamaayaa
sir daaddhee or mu(n)dd mu(n)ddaayaa..............................6
When one has lost him/herself for the Beloved, got his head and beard shaved( has shaken off worldly greatness).
kaalaa moh kar jag dikhalaayaa
to laalankee laalee paayaa........................................7
When one endures the insults from the world, he attains the vision of the beloved. Or the state of eternal bliss enables him to endure the insults from the world.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   kaalaa mo(n)h kar jag fare,
   daaddhee mu(n)dd mu(n)ddaae re;
   jag ni(n)daa sab sir dhare,
   to piyaaku(n) man bhaae re...................................XVI
O You, ... When one roams about in this world black faced and has shaven off his head and beard, and has endured the vilification of the world, has indeed attained the pleasure of the Beloved.

PART SEVENTEEN



lok kuttu(m)b sab mil kar aave
pa(n)d(pann) naseehat kar samjaave................................1
(When one is lost in Divine love) relatives come together towards him/her to advice him/her out of concern.
vaako haal or kachhu na paave(vaako haal or ku chhupaave)
kar(mari) malaamat fir fir jaave..................................2
They do not know his/her real position and return after taunting and insulting him/her.
maataa pitaa or gharakee naaree
bahen bhaaee or saasu sasaaree....................................3
Parents, wives, brothers, sisters, and the in-laws...
sab mil aave baaree baaree
unaku(n) sabahee deve gaaree......................................4
...seem all to gang up against him/her and taunt him/her.
maataa pitaa kahe bigaddiyo putaa
preme preme piyaalaa pitaa........................................5
The parents say: "Our child has been spoilt and has been under influence of false love".
naar kahe e kahee(n) vigutaa
lok kuttu(m)b kahe laagiyo bhutaa.................................6
His wife says that he has gone astray(become an infidel) and the relatives accuse him of being possessed by a ghost.
ghattathee prem jo upaje bhaaree
maataa pitaa sab preme visaaree...................................7
However, Divine love is so intense that all other loves may seem insignificant.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   bhoro lok jaane nahee,
   moho man bharaa hak re;(moho man var hay bhor)
   piyaa pati jab chit chaddyo,
   tab bhul gaye sab lok(dor) re...............................XVII
O You, ... The uninspired do not know that my mind has been under the influence of Divine Love. When the Beloved occupies one's thoughts, then everything else is forgotten.

PART EIGHTEEN



sab jug jeene su(n)dar hee chhoddaa
so kaahukaa sagaa(sang) na soddaa.................................1
The one who detaches himself from this beautiful world, has no relationship with others.

Variant: The person who detaches himself from other people tries not to get involved with them again.

naa(n)h rahe voh hath kaahoraa
kaahaa karat hae uraa toraa.......................................2
This person is not bound to others, then how can one say that he/she is my relation.
Second version:
naru nar hay nahi itaa koddaa
kaahaa karat jo raa toraa.........................................2
This person is 'holy' at heart(innocent) for he has no meetings or goodbyes.
apanee meree maher na aave
sukh thoddaa dukh adakaa paave....................................3
Such a person does not have any attachment for his her spouse for he prefers difficulties on the path to worldly pleasures(outside the path).
kaahaa karat hae panavaa par feraa
sun naseehat karo ghan ghaneraa...................................4
Why do you roam around for nothing? Listen to my advice and partake in abundance of rewarding actions.
voh fan apane laalan keraa
mat ko bhaa(n)kho meraa teraa.....................................5
When you attain the Guide, you will not say that it is mine or yours, i.e. you will have no attachments.
bhukh dukh sab vaa par (na?) aave
jeet jaave teet tthor na paave....................................6
Trials and tribulations such as hunger and pain may come and wherever you go, you may not find peace(outwardly).(But do not give up the Path).
jo piyaako dukh denaa bhaave
to sukh tere kuchh kaam na aave...................................7
If you get pleasure in giving unhappiness to the Beloved, then of what use is your worldly happiness.
second version:
jo piyaako dukh darad na paave
to sukh tere kuchh kaam na aave....................
If you do not accept God-given trials, then worldly prosperity is of no use.
jo sukh kaarann janam gamaave
bin dukh sukh kabahu nahi paave...................................8
You may spend your life for material comforts and pleasures but without trials and tribulations one will never attain inner peace.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   ghatt ghatt teraa shaah(chinta) nahee(n)
   or ghattme(n) teraa dukh re(or ghatt teri dhunn re);
   dukh tamaaraa ram(mara) raheyaa,
   karo mayaa hove sukh re. (karo maayaa tan sur re)..........XVIII
If there is no thought of God in your heart, your heart is filled with unhappiness(or your body is not worth the dust). The worldly trials destroy you, therefore ignite love of God in your heart (so that you may not feel the burden of the worldly trials).

PART NINETEEN



gur jo baatt hakakee laave
pahele nafee(nasiat) eesbaat bataave..............................1
When the Guide wishes to reveal the inner truths(haqaaiq), he first advices you on what is right and what is wrong.
karee tavjo(kartav jo) toe utthaave
aapo aap nira(n)jan paave.........................................2
He than detaches you from whatever you do, and thereby you attain the Pure in your own being.
jab tofeek eelaahee aave
mursheed keraa dhyaan lagaave.....................................3
When the Divine help(grace) comes, one's attention is automatically focussed upon the Guide.
"la illah" kar aap gamaave
"illallah" kar saajan paave.......................................4
When one loses himself/herself in the awareness of there is no Divinity accept God, he she attains the Beloved.
keebar takabbur manee gamaave
keenaa hasad or bugz na liyaave...................................5
One loses the vices of pride and selfishness as one progresses along the path, and there is no room for jealousy and hatred for others(because he is in possession of something far superior).
adu aly ku mul utthaave
so shaah bayak nira(n)jan paave...................................6
As one progresses one overcomes the enemy of Aly(mind and its desires), thereby through the grace of the Guide attains the Pure and indescriptible.
laa yaanee khataraa sab khove
manee manoreeku(n) sab dhove......................................7
One becomes a total renunciant and becomes detached from everything.
zhikar sagallaa khetee bove
nur tajallee ko fal hove..........................................8
He then sows the seed of remembrance in the field of his heart and reaps the fruit of Divine light.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   khetee bobe premkee
   paanee deve gyaan re
   nur tajallee fal fale
   jo laage piyaasu(n) dhyaan re................................XIX
O You, ... When one sows the seed of love in the field of his/her heart, and waters it with contemplative knowledge, he/she reaps the fruit of Divine light if the attention is with the Beloved.

PART TWENTY



jaaku(n) nur tajallee hoee
taakee gat kiyaa buje koee........................................1
When a person becomes enlightened, it becomes difficult for others to comprehend this state.
laaj sa(n)koch sab vaa(n)thee dhoee
jo nahi vaa(n)thee so fan hoee....................................2
This person becomes indifferent to the norms of the society and does not bother about what others may think of him/her, for his experiences are beyond ordinary conceptions.
kabuek paave kabuek khove
kabajaa vase aa(n)hi sab hove.....................................3
This person may sometimes appear sensible and sometimes above senses yet everything goes according to the way he/she wishes it to go.
kabuek ha(n)se or kabuek rove
kabuek laag piyaa gal sove........................................4
He/She sometimes laughs and sometimes cries and sometimes goes to sleep in the Beloved's arms.
haal mushaahid ko jab aave
sab kaahume piyaaku(n) paave......................................5
When a person attains the state of martyrdom(unity with God), he experiences the Beloved in every walk of life.
jese dekhe tesehee ubal jaave
jeeyu(n) kar een fulan lapatt aave................................6
He exudes love to whoever or whatever he encounters, like a fragrance of a flower. Variant: Enlightened people are like flowers with the scent; just as the scent cannot be separated from the flower nor can the enlightenment be distinguished from the person.
gaer gaeriyat sab utth jaave
buraa bhalaa sab vaaku(n) bhaave..................................7
The thoughts that distinguish you and I or good and evil no longer come to the enlightened person....
raahat aave sab dukh jaave
ye fan eeshk eelaahee kahaave.....................................8
...for he has that peace where no pain reaches and he is eternally in Divine Love.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   kaasu(n) reesu(n) kaasu(n) meelu(n)
   kaasu(n) laavu(n) chit re;
   naen tihaare chaahku(n)
   ehee veree ehee mit re........................................XX
O You, ... Whom can I be angry with, whom can I meet and whom can I bring to my attention. For my vision is blurred with Your deedar, (and everything seems rosy and peaceful) that friends and enemies are one.

PART TWENTY ONE



"mutakhallak" ko haal jab aave
ajab ajaaeb haalat paave..........................................1
When a person attains the condition of having the desire for Divine qualities, attains a very astonishing(beyond expactations) state.
kabuek aapasme(n) haree paave
kabuek harme(n) ddul ddulaave.....................................2
At times he/she sees God in him/herself and at times dances(soars) in Divine presence.
jaako haal na bujeeyo jaave
taakee baat na kahee man aave.....................................3
It is difficult for the ordinary person to understand these experiences nor can he/she conceptualize his explanations.
karub navaafil khan kahelaave
khan maa(n)he karub faraez paave..................................4
When this enlightened person prays for His nearness he gets it instantly and he seems to want it again and again.
jo tu(n) ulatt(ilam) hak ho jaave
aapasku(n) gaafil nahee(n)(fan) paave.............................5
When you lose yourself in the truth you will never become ignorant.
When you attain the knowledge of God, you realise that this existence is an illusion.
"bee yasmae" jab chitmaa(n) aave
karub navaafil tab kahelaave......................................6
When the Isme-Azam and you become one, then achieving His closeness becomes easier(through prayers).
jo aapasku(n) aalat(ilam) jaane
faaeel(fel) hak mutalak pahechaane................................7
If you get self-knowledge then you have the knowledge of His creation(you have answers to all His actions).
"maa raeytu" ko giyaan bakhaane
karub faraaez to ut tthaane.......................................8
When one begins to sing "I saw", he attains closeness.
second version:
mere chita ko giyaan bakhaane
karub faraid e to et kaane...............................
(Pir Sadardeen says) people who know what I am talking about appreciate it. My complaint is, O Lord, make us understand and serve you.
re tu(n)hee, ...
   piyaa ddhu(n)ddhann hu(n) chalee,
   piyaa hae sab tthaaere;
   khan gupat khan pragatt hae,
   so piyaa kese paaere.........................................XXI
O You, ... I went in search of my Beloved but found him everywhere. At times he was apparent and at times I felt His presence. How can we all achieve Him?(Think about that, o momins).

PART TWENTY TWO



haal hakeekat ko jab aave
aapasku(n) tab mul utthaave.......................................1
When the realization of truth is attained, one's worthlessness(insignificance) is realized.i.e. Real humility is awakened.
aapo aap nira(n)jan paave
aen muvaahadiyat tab kahelaave....................................2
When the Pure and the Formless is attained, then one is indeed called the person with Divine insight.
jab toheed eelaahee aave
aen gaen tab utth kar jaave.......................................3
When the oneness of God(Tawheed) is attained, the separation between I and You disappears.
aapasku(n) jab jalvaa paave
mulhad kaafar naam kahalaave......................................4
When a person attains Divine realisation and power within himself, the others regard him as 'beimaani'(one without faith) or 'kafir'(infidel).
su(n)dar keraa haal na jaane
buree bhalee sab jagat bakhaane...................................5
But no one understands the state of the enlightened, some of the worldly people regard him as virtuous and some as a sinner.
kaaheku(n) vae chit na aane
sab jalvaa us kar jaane...........................................6
They do not give thought to what he says, as all the inner enlightenment is from Allah.
"analhakk" vo utahee bhaakhe
jab lizzat mansurkee chaakhe......................................7
For he will only say 'I am the truth' when he tastes the love Mansur experienced.

Variant: The experience which Mansoor had is the experience to aspire for, for then your whole being will say GOD.

jo kar hifazh maraatab raakhe
laaj sa(n)koch sab falakee raakhe.................................8
When such a person retains the experience gained, he will be able to sustain the honour of his family,(inspite of the taunts and insults from the people for they will not matter).
re tu(n)hee, ...
   jab dekhe sab aapaku(n)
   or na paave koere;
   kaa(n)e na bhaa(n)kho analhakk
   aen nira(n)jan hoere........................................XXII
O You, ... When a person attains the state in which he sees his own true self in everything, and sees nothing else besides, then he should not say 'I am the truth' for he has immersed himself into the unknowable(which cannot be described). Variant: When you see yourself in everything then you can say you are God or you can say God is you..., But save this thought till you are one with him for he is infinite.
