The True Guide says: The entire creation can pronounce 'Beloved, Beloved', but not everybeing attains the Beloved thus. If the Beloved could be attained by mere movement of the lips, there is no (need of)bargaining of the head (mental faculties),i.e., discrimination, reflection, meditation or participation of intellect in faith.

The True Guide says: If you sacrifice your mind (occupy your mind for higher purpose), remain awake at nights, and occupy yourself with the remembrance of the Lord, then you will be in the presence of the true Lord.

The True Guide says: Even small insects can pronounce 'Beloved', but none of them attain the Beloved thus. If the Beloved could be attained by mere movement of the lips, the crane(inferior bird) would be regarded as a swan(superior bird).

The True Guide says: The heron and the swan are similar, and appear to have the same form. But the heron feeds on what it pleases, whereas the swan feeds on pearls(divine knowledge and wisdom - ginaans).

                kaach kamaayo veekh bhare

The True Guide says: Pieces of glass and jewels are similar, and their worth is found by testing. If glass is purchased, poison accumulates, whereas jewels yield enlightenment.

The True Guide says: The ones without the guide and the one with one are similar, having the same outward appearance. But the former crave for wealth and glitter, whereas the later crave for the name of the Lord.

The True Guide says: You may have recited the Holy name many a time and not have brought any pain (tears) of love. It is as futile as plastering smoky fire with cow dung or playing music on a broken instrument.

The True Guide says: The loving devotion resides in the heart, and let the interior be filled with intense desire. With every breath recite His name in such a manner, that even the ear is not conscious of it.

The True Guide says: In whom faith is manifest, heedlessness is rendered remote. What can darkness(of ignorance) do in the presence of the light(of knowledge and wisdom) from the True Guide.

The True Guide says: The world originated from the light, and the heavens were created from the light. From the (primordial) light, light manifested. It's name is the True Guide(Pir).

                te rang bhog bahu padami paameeyaa
                pann thoddaa aashak mul re.......................11
The True Guide says: We have come into this world, and brought the thorns(pains) of salvation. Through devotion to worldly activities many people have achieved high status(worldly), but very few are the real original lovers.

The True Guide says: Great fortune is attributed to those who have performed austerities, pilgrimages, fasting and great charities. But they have descended below after enjoying the heavens, having not recognised the Divine Guide.

                jenne jeeve satgur nahi ollakhyaa

The Ture Guide says: Bhramins jogis and jain monks have all wandered aimlessly and gone astray. Those who have not recognised the True Guide, how can they become immortal?

ue Guide says: Gold and silver are genuine, and may be tested by fire. But if they are melted and dissolved without the Elixir, how can their essence(distinctiveness) emerge?

The True Guide says: The Guide bears a bundle on his head, while the disciple carries a load. If you embark on a boat of iron, how can you get across?(It is not possible to attain salvation through material means only)

The True Guide says: To the extent that the guide is blind, his disciple will be in vain. He follows his own desires and is obstinate, even upon death, he will not attain salvation.

                teese bohor marann na hoy re.....................17
 
The True Guide says: All creatures can die false(repeated) deaths but not all of them die real deaths. Whoever dies after knowing the True Guide(or after getting knowledge from the True Guide), will not have to die again and again.

                ane sir upar bharyaa chhe bhaar
                jo satkee naav maanhe besee-e
                to satgur utaare paar re.........................18
The True Guide says: The ocean of the world, has indeed a lot of water(one cannot swim across it by himself), and there is a heavy burden(of material responsibilities) on the head. If one sits in the boat of truth, than the True Guide will take you across.

                pavan jo chaale prem kaa
                to satgur utaare paar re.........................19
The True Guide says: Let the outward form of the boat be the name of the Lord, and fill it with the true load(good deeds). When the wind of love blows over, the True Guide will take you across.

                e jeev peenddhako je dhannee
                jenne neepaai chaare khaann re...................20
The True Guide says: Do not condemn your soul to the state of being ignorant and astray, and do not regard the True Guide as anyone other than the one who is the master of the body and soul who created all the four sources of existence, i.e., ether, fire, water and earth(these were believed to be the sources of existence at the time of the composition of the verses).

                purav pun potaa tannu

The True Guide says: Oh soul, you took your form from the four sources, and completely got lost in it. Due to your earnings of the past, you have attained the human incarnation.

                e maannek moto shu thayo
                jo antar na paddeeyo chhed re....................22
The True Guide says: You attained the human form(incarnation), but nobody knows the secrets of salvation. How can such a pearl be regarded as great, if it has not destroyed (the veil) inside.

                te nahee aave vaaroi vaar
                paatra peechhaannee bhrahmaj pujee-e
                to kull hove neesataar re........................23
The True Guide says: You have maintained the body which corresponds to human form, and it will not comeback again and again(this opportunity will not come again). Recognising the Manifestation, worship the Creator completely. Then your family and progeny will have an awareness (of the truth and falsehood).

                ane mat ko baandho aann
                peeyujee reedaa maanhe raakhee-e
                jem ravee ugameeyo bhaann re.....................24
The True Guide says: The thoughts of death(time) revolve over the head, but do not be bound by them. Keep the Beloved in your hearts, like the sun shining over the solar system.

                ane rahennee te hove dur
                tem nav khand maanhe dev prakaasheeyaa
                jem prabhaate ugyo sur re........................25
The True Guide says: The sun has risen and the light has come, and the night is rendered remote. In the same manner the Lord shines over the nine continents like the sun having risen at dawn.
satgur kahere:  suraj ugyo te sahu deen kahe
                ane rahennee na kaheve koi
                tem satgur jugmaa(n) he mugatko daataar
                bhaai avar thee mugat na hoy re..................26
The True Guide says: All the religions speak of the risen sun(due to it's light) and nobody speaks of the night(of darkness). In the same manner the True Guide is the Saviour through whom salvation is attained. Brother, salvation cannot be attained through other means.

                ane laavyaa mugatno bhed
                jene nur satgur bhette-aa
                te amar huaa tatakhev re.........................27
The True Guide says: We have come into this world, and have brought the essence of salvation. Whoever has (been) embraced (by)the Light of the True Guide, has attained immortality at that moment.

                ane saache mane patee laa-e
                e lohaa paaras jo malle
                to kshann ek maa(n)he ka(n)chan thaay re.........28
The True Guide says: Observe the Evaluator as being manifest, and with true mind have conviction of this. If the philosopher's stone comes into contact with iron, in a moment it is transformed into gold.

                bhamaree chattko iyall sahe

The True Guide says: a worm and a bumble bee are similar in appearance, and it(the bee) brings the worm inside it's upper arm. When the worm endures the licking of the bee, they become alike.

                ane laagee vishnu ne charann
                te maa(n)he anek nadeeu(n) jaai bhalle
                te sarve gangaa varann re........................30
The True Guide says: The River Ganges(the Imam) has come dowm from the heavens, and is flowing at the feet of the Lord. There are numerous rivers(murids) that blend with it. They are all of the same nature as the Ganges.

                 ane teerath maa(n)he teerath satgur peer
                 te ga(n)gaa thee allagaa rahe
                 tenu(n) kahaave fokatt neer re..................31
The True Guide says: The pilgrimage of the Ganges thrives abunduntly, and the real pilgrimage is the devotion to the True Guide. Whoever stays away from this Ganges, his/her water(soul) is to be regarded as void and useless.

                 jeev ja(n)gal jaai tu vase
                 tyaa konn vataave shaher re.....................32
The True Guide says: The entire world worships the idols(or bodies), and have fallen into great cycles(of rebirth). You have gone and lived in the jungle of the soul. Who will show you the way towards the City over there?

                 mahaa van maa(n)he jo maannas malle
                 to tthekaann batalaay re........................33
The True Guide says: Having gone to the jungle the person is lost. Whom will he/she ask for the way? In the great jungle if a Man is found, He will show the destination.

                 to tevo te jeev amar thaay re...................34
The True Guide says: The world is void and the universe is blind and the worship therein is very quite(insignificant). If the drinker contacts the breast to fill the milk with then his/her soul will become immortal.

The milk will only flow into the breast if there is a drinker around. We must endevour to be thirsty of it so that the milk may flow into the breast.

                 ane parakho te parakhann haar
                 e motee bhaageeyu vee(n)dhataa
                 tenu(n) gayu mul apaar re.......................35
The True Guide says: Of the truth and of the false are similar, and the evaluators evaluate them. Such are the pearls of good fortune resulting from research. Their value has gone infinitely high.

                 je kahe a(n)tar nee vaat
                 jutthaa ne koi puchhe nahee
                 te na jaanne shaah nee dhaat re.................36
The True Guide says: We hang those truthful ones who reveal the mysteries of the heart. Nobody will ask the false ones as they do not know the essence of the Lord.

                 ane saachaa ne maare laat
                 jutthaa ne juttho aavee malle
                 to bole paa(n)ch ne saat re.....................37
The True Guide says: The world gives reputation to the false and kicks at the true ones. Falsehood comes to the false ones and as a result speak(falsely) of the five and the seven (crore liberated ones).
satgur kahere:   sabhaa sareekhu sahu koi bole
                 ane koi na bole sat dharam
                 kare nee(n)daa ne aap na veechaare
                 teen seer bese karam re.........................38
The True Guide says: Everyone speaks about the public gatherings and no one speaks about the True Religion. They backbite and slander without thinking. Upon their heads befalls the burden.
satgur kahere:   karam to sarave utare
                 ane na utare par nee(n)daa ne aall
                 par gavan na utare
                 na utare aap hatyaa ne baall re.................39
The True Guide says: The entire burden of sins is reducible, except the sin of backbiting and false accusation, illicit(sexual) relationships and sin of suicide and killing of children.
satgur kahere:   paa(n)ch hatyaa to paapnnee
                 jeen seer lakhee lelaatt aa-e
                 te neet utthee gatmaa(n)he jaae
                 to-e jeev amar na thaay re......................40
The True Guide says: The five killers(of the soul) are sinful. Upon whoever's head these are written, will receive kicks. Even if he gets up everyday and goes to the gat(J.K.), his soul will not attain immortality.

                 ane detaa mahaa bhom daan
                 toy karam na utare
                 jo kare gangaa nu snaan re......................41
The True Guide says: Everyone performs worship and pilgrimage, and gives large tracts of land for charity. Even then the burden of sins are irreducible, if one performs bathing in the Ganges.
satgur kahere:   paa(n)ch hatyaa par lokthee
                 ane lakhee lone loe
                 te faatte ne feette nahee
                 te bhogavee chhutte aa-e re.....................42
The True Guide says: The five vices are of the other world(past lives), and they have been ingrained at a very personal level. They may be split but will not be wiped out(at once). By enduring them and working them out(through patience), one gets freed from them.
satgur kahere:   adho gate jeev tu aaveeyo
                 ane paddeeyo te chaare khaann
                 te adhuro eenddo galeeo
                 te na jaanne ugyo bhaann re.....................43
The True Guide says: Oh soul you have descended(from heaven) and have fallen into the four origins. You have swallowed only half an egg not having known the risen sun(the True Guide).
satgur kahere:   janam andho jeev tu rahyo
                 ane jot gai veesaar
                 paapi te bhrahmann ne pankhave
                 te na jaanne saar asaar re......................44
The True Guide says: Oh soul you have remained blind and the light has been forgotten. The sinful is known as that bhrahmin(scholar), who does not know to differentiate the worthy and the unworthy.
satgur kahere:   sahastra pachaas bhogavee aaveeyo
                 ane aaveeyo te maankhaa deh
                 satpanth seer laagyaa nahee
                 jem unaalle utthaa meh re.......................45
The True Guide says: You have come here having gone through a thousand (forms,lives), and have taken up the human body. But you have not taken up the True Religion in your minds. It is like rain falling in summer(in vain).

The grace is ever present, but if one does not prepare oneself to receive the grace, then it goes wasted. Preparation to receive the grace comes through religious worship.

satgur kahere:   nagar maanhe khaaddaa khaabocheeaa
                 jaai bhalle gangaa maanhe
                 paapi enneepere paavan thaay
                 jo jai bhalle sat dharam maanhe re..............46
The True Guide says: In the city a shallow ditch(of filth) is flowing, and it mixes with the Ganges. In the same manner the sinful is purified when he connects himself with the True Religion.

                 pann satpanth choll majeetth hay
                 bhaai baakee rang patang re.....................47
The True Guide says: The colour of a paper kite is illusory and such is the colour of the world. But the True Religion is a purifying entity. Brother, everything else is illusory.

                 te jalleegallee ttukadda ho rahe
                 toy na mele rang re.............................48
The True Guide says: Apply the colour or dye to the truth with appropriate conduct. Even if a momin is burned and broken to pieces, he/she will not leave the colour(truth).

                 ane jug jaanne e mee(n)t
                 te paapee khaay pee-e pee(n)ddh potaa tanne
                 te nakare jeevnee chee(n)t re...................49
The True Guide says: The intention was to be poor and the world recognises it as an act of God. In the same manner the sinner eats and drinks for the sake of his own body and does not care for his soul.

                 ane antar leh lagaay
                 swas u swas em jampee-e
                 jeeyu kaane surat na jaay re....................50
The True Guide says: Carry truthful intentions with you or be in the company of the truthful, and ignite the desire(for the light) within. Upon every breath remember the Lord in such a manner that it's awareness does not reach the ear.

                 ane sat kaa karo shannagaar
                 nayanne kaajall nehakaa
                 peeyu karo galekaa haar re......................51
The True Guide says: (Say)My reliance is upon the Truth and make a decoration of the Truth. Let love be the collyrium of the eyes and the Beloved be a necklace.

                 ane jem dushman ne ghaa-e
                 te jeev na raakhe aap no
                 pachhee mue  neeveddaa thaay re.................52
The True Guide says: The soul that through bravery sacrifices it's head in the manner of slaying an enemy, is the soul that does not keep any(karmic debts) and then at death there will be an ultimate settlement (salvation).

                 e paanch tatva keraa putalaa
                 te jape ajapeeaajaap re.........................53
The True Guide says: The really dead is the one whose mind is dead, then the world is his/hers(under his/her control). His/her five senses(vices?) have become lifeless idols(inactive) and he/she meditates upon the unpronounciable word.
satgur kahere:   sab jug dekhee-aa neerdhanaa
                 ane dhanavant na dekhee-aa koi
                 dhanavant usku aankhee-e
                 jenee preet peeaasu hoy re......................54
The True Guide says: The whole world sees the worthless and no one sees the worthy. The worthy are only seen by the ones who have their love directed towards the Beloved.
satgur kahere:   sodhan sanchore baapdde
                 jene ghaat na laage kaai
                 jaraa maranna gaanje nahee jeev aapannaa
                 pachhee mue neevedda hoy re.....................55

The True Guide says: Conduct research and be amongst the poor who do not feel any loss. Your soul will not fear death at old age. Then upon death there will be a settlement(salvation).

                 bhojan jame kshudhaa bhaange
                 tem haree japataa paatak jaay re................56
The True Guide says: By drinking nector, poison is reduced and by drinking water, thirst is quenched. By having a meal, hunger is broken. In the same manner, by remembering the Lord all the sins disappear.

                 ane maayaa maanhe na laavo jeev
                 janam gamaaie prem su
                 to paamee-e saachaa peeyu re....................57
The True Guide says: Keep away from the sweet world and do not occupy your soul with the illusory existence. If you devote your life for the sake of (Divine)love, then you will attain the true Beloved.

                 pann peeyu ni dhaat na jaanne koi re............58
The True Guide says: Every creature pronounces 'Beloved Beloved' and nobody attains the Beloved thereby. They utter by mouth one speech repeatedly but nobody knows the essence of the Beloved.

                 te ghar ponche aapanne

The True Guide says: Whoever understands our essence, walks on the Right Path. He reaches our abode and never returns to rebirths.

                 e duniyaa dureejan daakhave
                 te jalbal hove kheh re..........................60
The True Guide says: The thirsty of love resides in the mind(heart) and in the mind(heart) he thinks of(feels)love. He/She perceives the world as wicked which eventually turns to clay by burning and drowning.

                 ane prem peeddaa hay sul
                 e kanak kasotte aap ku
                 to chaudaa paave mul re.........................61
The True Guide says: The (path of)love of the Beloved is difficult and the pains(trials and tribulations) of love are the thorns. The gold (the devotee) is tested by the Lord, and attains a very high value.
satgur kahere:   mul paayaa so mar chalyaa
                 jene kaleje laagaa baann
                 vajar vejo laage nahee
                 te paravat keraa paann re.......................62
The True Guide says: Having attained a high price the soul left to die. He in whose liver an arrow(of love, spiritual sorrow) has penetrated is not affected(lured) by the iron chains( worldly entrapping). He is like an edge of a mountain(unattached).
satgur kahere:   paanhaann parabodhee ras keeaa
                 na gale te nugaraa mahaa ajaann
                 erann mellavaa ttukadda
                 gur veenaa te jutthaa baann ....................63
The True Guide says: Even the stones melt away through preaching, (but) the ones without a Guide are like mountains (unpreachable). The solder bound the pieces together. Without a guide the arrow is false.
satgur kahere:   bonn bohole gur boleeyaa
                 ane samaje te saachaa koi
                 e lohaathee akhar paragattee-aa
                 bhaai paalle so pa(n)ddeet hoyare...............64
     
The True Guide says: Whatever said that is attributed to the Guarded Tablet(universal intellect) is indeed attributed to the Guide, and those who understand this fact are indeed very few. From this Guarded Tablet the (original) Word manifested. Brother, those who (merely) recite it are the scholars.
satgur kahere:   pa(n)ddeet paddeeyaa bahot kar
                 ane saachaa na lee-aa ser
                 jo bohoteraa loddee-e
                 to paddee-e motte fer re........................65
The True Guide says: The scholar has indeed studied a great deal but has not taken up the Right Path. If one argues and quarrels a great deal, he falls into a great cycle.
satgur kahere:   feraa to teesaku(n) padde
                 jeene kee-aa ma(n)deer maa(n)he do-e
                 nav saa keraa paragatteeyaa 
                 teno maram na buje koi re.......................66
The True Guide says: The cycles fall on those ones who have committed sins in the place of worship or in the world. The Lord and His bounties and attributes have manifested therein, but the significance of these is not realised by everyone.

                 ane sab jug dekhe bee saa-e
                 gunnavantaa gunn aa(n)khee-e
                 pachhee mue sukareet lakhaay re.................67
The True Guide says: Our way(method) of ascetism is difficult and everyone recognises it as such. The meritorious bound has the vision of virtue only and then upon death only virtue stays forever.

                 ane karee paragatt deekhalaa-e
                 e jeebh japa(n)taa peeyu malle
                 so mee(n)dar peeyu paay re......................68
The True Guide says: The entire world performs asceticism and openly manifest it. If by movement of lips the Beloved can be attained, (everyone in ) the world will attain the Beloved.
satgur kahere:   peeyu peeyu karataa jo peeyu malle
                 ane seer upar bhareeyaa bhaar
                 jo man khele mokallaa
                 bhaa(n)gee naav na hove paar re.................69
The True Guide says: One feels that by mere statement of 'Beloved Beloved', the Beloved can be attained, and the head is laden with burden(of knowledge). If the mind plays in the open(reveals the secrets), than the broken boat cannot reach the end.

(ane kaasal jaave saath re) The True Guide says: As is the lamp(which removes darkness) at the ceiling of a house, and in it is the darkness of the night; wash the futile show(illusion) and remove the filth in the heart.

The True Guide says: As is the Lamp at the ceiling of the house surrounded by the darkness of the night. This is but a futile and temporary show(illumination). The soot of the lamp(kaasal) will go with it in the end(when the lamp is rendered redundant).

The True Guide says: The rivers Ganges, Jamunaa and Saraswati, even if you wash yourself in them in a complete manner, the stain of the inside(heart) will not come off and later on it will become a permanent trait resulting in suffering.

The True Guide says: Talk continuosly (about Him) and about the recognition of the Beloved. Even if the Beloved is attained through the sacrifice of the head(intellectual pursuit or sacrifice of life), it is to be considered cheap(He is priceless).

The True Guide says: The essence of Divine Love is very delightful to whoever is fortunate to taste it. If one attains the Lord through the activity of the mind(reflection, meditation, discrimination), this person's heart will provide the Link.

Explains the relationship between the conviction of the mind and that of the heart. They are mutually reinforcing.

The True Guide says: Whoever has tasted the delight of the Lord and does not feed on any other matter(does not crave for anything else), and is rendered powerless or is defeated to death by Love, sits and enjoys the delightful Love.

The person who tastes Divine love becomes physically weak because the Lord takes care of his/her physical needs. He does not have to exert himself a great deal for livelihood.

The True Guide says: Mortify my animal(soul) and the separation(of animal and Divine) caused thereby will not go away after death. It's flesh will fall and be buried under the ground. Brother, it's cage(the world) will remain unaffected.

The True Guide says: Plants of a grassy nature are created and water is the object of their affection. But what can poor dry teak wood be aware of even if abundant rain falls on it.

Being soft and humble as grass makes one more receptive to the Grace but if one is as hard as teak wood, no matter how much Grace is bestowed, it won't be affected by it.

The True Guide says: Soul you have come to be forgetful and the one who is forgetful is indeed the greatest ignorant. Oh soul you have come here repeatedly. Even then you have not slayed the five causes of spiritual death (vices).

The five causes of spiritual death are carnal desire,anger, greed, attracion of the world and pride.

The True Guide says: The everliving has risen and manifested, and inside(of the body) shines like the moon. It(the light) has grown like the splendour of sixteen mansions on the moon. Nobody understands it's alchemy.

The True Guide says: In the era of Tretaa, Hareechanddhra saved and seven crores were set on the Right Path. The seven crores served as saintly women they did not speak(evil) of anybody.
