Forty years ago, the Aga Khan University received its Charter from the Government of Pakistan as a vast crowd of well-wishers looked on. It was a truly historic occasion – the kind that comes only a few times in one's life. It filled my heart and the hearts of many others with joy and pride.

Shortly after the announcement of our museum in Toronto, the aim of which is to present Islamic art in all its beauty and diversity, I had the immense pleasure of receiving Henri Loyrette’s invitation to stage an exhibition here at the Louvre.

I am deeply honoured to be here and deeply grateful for your invitation. This is a memorable day both in your personal lives and in the life of this School—and I am pleased to share in it.

They say that a good graduation speaker is someone who can talk in someone else’s sleep. I hope we can break that pattern today.

"I have been most impressed during this short visit, not only with the excellent maintenance of the buildings, but even more so with the appearance of all the children and with the intelligent care and guidance they are receiving. In the afternoon, His Royal Highness accompanied by Princess Salimah drove to the Prince Aly Khan Boys' Academy at Malir to perform the opening ceremony of the Academy established by the Ismailia Youth Services in memory of Hazar Imam's illustrious father the late Prince Aly S. Khan.
