AGA KHAN PROPOSES CONFERENCE ON ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR AFGHANISTAN DEVELOPMENT - 2006-01-31
Representatives from 70 countries met in London to sign what is being called the Afghanistan Compact. The meeting hosted by Blair and Karzai focuses on reconstruction. Condolezza Rice sitting beside the Aga Khan announced a new $1.2 billion aid package. The Aga Khan's development agencies are major players in the Afghan development process.

It is a great pleasure and honour to be with you all today. We extend our warmest thanks to all those whose dedication has made this conference possible, most especially to President Karzai and the Government of Afghanistan for their central role - as well as to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who will attend tomorrow's closing session.

The Aga Khan Cultural Services' list will be hosted on major social media platforms of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and will allow the group to log threats to sites of historical importance and bring them to international attention.
