2005, January 29: Aga Khan, the prince of architecture, was honoured for his work in a eld that can 'improve the quality of life' and 'mirror the plurality of cultural traditions.' The Great Hall of the National Building Museum is a breathtaking space. The ceiling rises 15 storeys above the floor at its tallest point, and its interior Corinthian columns are among the tallest in the world. Bedecked with roses and candles, and buzzing with the conversation of a glittering and eclectic mix of people, this was the grand setting for a black tie gala last Tuesday to honour the Aga Khan for his contribution to architecture.

2005, March 17-18: His Highness the Aga Khan, accompanied by his daughter Princess Zahra, joined His Excellency, President Benjamin Mkapa in announcing the construction of the second phase of the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam and joined in laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new academy in Dar es Salaam.

2005, March 25: On Friday March 25, Egyptian first lady Suzanne Mubarak and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, a private agency which seeks to revitalize Muslim communities, inaugurated the largest public park built in Cairo in over a century.

2005, May 13: Le Prince Aga Khan, un des principaux investisseurs en Afrique de l`Est a assisté à la conférence prévue pour se terminer dans la soirée de mercredi. Le Prince a investi dans de nombreuses entreprises dans la région comme le groupe de presse Nation de Nairobi, qui publie The Nation, le quotidien à plus fort tirage d`Afrique de l`Est. Le Prince qui n`assiste normalement pas à des conférences d`IRT se serait rendu cette fois-ci à Dar es Salaam pour évaluer les prochains changements en Tanzanie. 2005, May 22: The Aga Khan pointed out that media coverage of the continent was at times adversarial and negative and called for changes that promote greater partnership between journalists and government. He said that Africa has suffered what he described as “manipulative journalism” promoted by materialism, commercial interests, civil society and practised by ill educated reporters. This kind of journalism, he said preys on gullible journalists and is in conflict with public interest, Africa’s human development and moral aspirations.

2005, May 29: H.H. The Aga Khan hosted a diner for the Government and guests on 29th of May evening at the Serena, Islamabad. The Dinner was preceeded by a presentation by Stephano Bianca of AKCSP on the Forts.

2005, June 3: Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will present the insignia of Companion of the Order of Canada to His Highness the Aga Khan during a private ceremony at Rideau Hall, on Monday, June 6, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. The appointment is in effect as of October 29, 2004.

2005, June 6: In her speech at the sod-turning ceremony, the Governor General said:"This building will be an intellectual centre for the development network that you have founded and nurtured. I'm reminded of the old Latin proverb that progress comes from "spurring a willing horse". It means finding an event that was waiting to happen, or a group or even a nation that was ready to act, and jumpstarting them with a jolt of material and intellectual force. This place represents such an infusion of energy, and I am sure that it will move development efforts."

2005, June 25: Beirut, Lebanon - On the occasion of the 136th Commencement Exercises the American University of Beirut awarded honorary doctoral degree to the Aga Khan. The ceremony for the granting of honorary degrees was held in the Assembly Hall at 12:00 noon on Commencement Day.

2005, July 23: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II talks with His Highness Aga Khan, the owner of winning horse Azamour ridden by jockey Mick Kinane who won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Newbury racecourse, Berkshire, England.

2005, October 3: The Aga Khan received from Afghan President Hamid Karzai the Quadriga award in Berlin on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005. The award is bestowed every year on 3rd October in Berlin to four personalities of the political, economic, social and cultural life, who point the way to the future for enlightenment, regeneration and pioneering spirit through their commitment.

2005, November 8: President Hamid Karzai officially opened the most luxurious hotel in destitute Afghanistan on Tuesday, with the five-star Kabul Serena touted as a means to lure investors and dollar-spending tourists.The opening ceremony was attended by the Aga Khan, whose Aga Khan Development Network is the key backer of the project.

2005, December 1-7: His Highness the Aga Khan visited various areas of Pakistan during which time he met with various leaders. Views were exchanged on various matters of importance including rehabilitation of earthquake-hit people and ongoing measures for the promotion of health and education facilities in the province

2005, December 19: His Highness Karim Aga Khan was in Portugal to sign a Protocol of Cooperation signalling the common intent to work toward the improvement of the quality of life of vulnerable populations in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries of Asia and Africa. During this visit HH the Aga Khan also recieved the Gra-Cruz de Cristo, or Military Order of Christ award.
