Abidjan (Ivory Coast): A protocol was signed between the Aga Khan Developement Network and the Government. It defines broad principles of cooperations including bestowing A Diplomatic Status to the representative of the AKDN in Ivory Coast. In His speech, The Aga Khan talked about the concept of dynamic development and referred to the conference of the World Bank with 9 religious leaders in London on 9th February 1998.

It is indeed with deep gratitude that I have accepted the invitation of the President of the Republic and the Government of Côte d'Ivoire to return to this beautiful country so hospitable and so remarkable for the harmony in which its people live, and which has the pleasure of also benefiting the small Ismaili Community since the very first years of Independence.

La visite officielle de 72 heures du Prince Aga Khan en Côte d'Ivoire a pris fin jeudi dernier à Yamoussoukro. Où il s'est incliné sur la tombe du Président Félix Houphouet-Boigny décédé le 7 décembre 1993. Arrivé en Côte d'Ivoire le 3 mars, Son Altesse l'Aga Khan a eu plusieurs séances de travail avec les autorités ivoiriennes, couronnées par la signature, mercredi après-midi, d'un protocole d'accord de coopération en matière de développement.

AGA KHAN TO EXPAND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN WEST AFRICA-1998-03-04

His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, and Ivoirian President Henri Konan Bedie yesterday signed an Accord of Co-operation for Development envisaging an expanded commitment by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) to Cote d'Ivoire. The Accord will permit the optimal utilisation of the human and financial resources of the Ismaili Imamat (office of spiritual leadership) and the AKDN for social and cultural development activities in West Africa.

The signing of the accord authorises the establishment of an AKDN mission in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Prince Visits His Network-1998-03-04

The Prince Aga Khan arrived in Abidjan yesterday, for an official three-day visit in Ivory Coast. On this occasion, this afternoon, he is to sign a protocol confirming His co-operation with the Ivorian government.

"I am very happy to be in a country which I enjoy and which I believe we must enlarge and render more efficient the co-operation between my institution and the Ivory Coast."
