Jamatkhanas in India.

Ya Ali Madad to my follow Ismailis

I visited India during the month of September 2009. I was suprised to learn that there is no Jamatkhana in Delhi. The only Jamatkhana we have in Delhi is in the basement of Kapoor Building. I also learnt that there are very few Ismailis living in Delhi.

Goa Jamatkhane is beautiful and well maintained. Most of our Ismailis attend Jamatkhana daily in Goa.

I also visited Andheri Jamatkhana in Mumbai. Although it was built in 1927, it has been maintained well but need painting done inside the Jamatkhana. Wish we can find funds to have JK painted. The Jamat is excellent and go to Jamatkhana everyday, specially young ones.

The Darkhana Jamatkhana in Mumbai need to be refurbished. It's a beautiful Jamatkhana but not been maintained. Maybe someone can bring it to the attention of Hazar Imam. In speaking to one of our jamati member, I was advised that the Council keep saying that they will refurbish JK but nothing has been done. Mumbai Darkhana JK reminds me of Nairobi Center Jamatkhana.

I was very pleased to learn that most of our Jamat in Mumbai are doing well and lots of funding is provided by the Agakhan Foundation for Ismailis to start a business.

I am looking forward to visit India again in September 2010. If anyone has Jamatkhana addresses and contact person in Dubai, SIngapore, Malaysia, Mumbai, Puna, Benglore and Kerala, I would appreciate if they can email me at my email address of nashir.lalji@roger.com. Last time when I was in Mumbai, I was able to visit only Andheri JK which was near the Hotel I stayed at Juhu Beach. During the day time I visited Darkhana JK. I would like to visit other JKs especially the one that is near Prince Aly Khan Hospital and there are Ismailis Flats.

Thank you and Ya Ali Madad

Nashir Lalji
