November 1900 - Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III during his travels to Europe, also met with Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm and during one of the meetings with the Emperor, Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III was able to persuade an important demand of the Indian, mainly Ismaili settlers in the German East Africa to be permitted to grow rice along the fertile banks of the Rufiji River. Furthermore, the Kaiser also agreed to raise the social status of the Indians and remove some small petty annoyances
