PART ONE

ati acharat kahu(n) ek pahelee
jeesathee hove vaatt sohelee......................................1

Let me tell you the first awful riddle, (which when solved) will make your path easy.

piyu chhaanaa kiyu(n) pragat aayaa
kahone kon piyaa bhekh firaayaa...................................2

How did the hidden Beloved manifest himself? Tell me what garb did he wear?

laa thee un zaat kahaave
jaa(n) kee baat kahee nahee(n) jaave..............................3

His essence(zaat) is derived from no-thing, and it is not possible for me to tell you about it.

ddubakee le le gothaa khaave
peer paygambar to e nahee paave...................................4

It is like diving deep (into the ocean of knowledge) and tumbling over and over for even the Peers and Prophets where not able to know him completely.

mahaa agaadh samu(n)ddhra kahaave
jaa ko paar koee na paave.........................................5

(God's mystery is like) a very vast and deep ocean. No one can attain it's limits(no one can unfold it in it's entirety).

jo eesa samu(n)ddha maa(n) ddubkee khaave
marjeevaa hoe so maannak laave....................................6

If one dives into this ocean, then such a diver will bring to the shore pearls(of wisdom and knowledge).

ddubakee le le janam gamaave
vaa(n) ko thaag kabahu e paave....................................7

If one were to spend his/her entire life diving, then maybe he/she will attain the limits.

re tu(n)hee maaraa saachaa saaee(n)yaa(n) piyujee tu(n)hee
niraalaa nira(n)jan kahee-e(n),
niraalee kahee-e(n) kuchh baata re;
gu(n)ge sapanaa paae-aa,
samaja samaja pachhataa ya re..................................I

O You, my True Lord, You are indeed my Beloved
Mysterious is the indescriptible, and mysterious are all it's descriptions and allusions. It is like a dumb person experiencing a beautiful dream and is regretful not being able to describe it to others.

PART TWO

niyaare the nyaaraa kar kar maane
yaa haa gat the kuchhu vaa peechhaane.............................1

The unfolder of the mysteries (the seeker) himself becomes mysterious(transformed) as he progresses along the path of faith. Having traversed this path he may unravel some of it's mysteries.

Variant:
These secrets(about creation) are full of wonder and those who endeavour to unfold them become part of it as they evolve spiritually.

sab shifatosu(n) jaaku(n) paave
so shafaat kun vaahadiyat kahalaave...............................2

If one attains all the virtues, the path encompassing these virtues should be regarded as the only path leading towards unity(of Allah), i.e. all virtues are essentially Divine.

rup anup anek dikhaave
bhaat bhaat piyaa bhekh firaave...................................3

He shows you his different facets(along the Path), He may express Himself in different modes(patterns) and may even wear different garbs.

een donu(n) maa(n)he vahadiyat kahee-e
jaaku(n) donu(n) sifatu(n) su(n) lahee-e..........................4

Regard His two attributes(zaat and seefaat) as one. He should be understood through these two.

Variant:
(The difference between you and Him) is that He is the Creator and beyond creation whereas you are part of creation.

jaame jahaa(n) asmaakee hoee
kahe(kahat) uluhiyat(alupavat) sothee(hoi) sohee..................5

All the holy names(asmaaul husnaa) are encompassed in His essence, and all the Divine forms are known through the Divine essence.

Variant:
(To close that gap between you and Him), isme-azam or bol should be present in your total being.

ab(rab) jahaa(n) tafseer jo hoee,
buje bujannhaaraa jo koee.........................................6

When an attempt at explanation and interpretation is made, only the ones who are receptive to it will understand. (this kind of understanding is not for all).

re tu(n)hee....
jene ra(n)g ne rup nahi,
nahee kuchh naam ne tthaam re,
so guptaa pragatt bhayaa,
laakh dharee tab naam re......................................II

O You, ....
That which does not have any colour or form, nor any name or abode; so when this hidden entity becomes manifest, it assumes hundreds of thousands of names.

Variant:
He has no colour nor any form; He has no name nor an abode; so secret is he yet millions worship Him.

PART THREE

naam nira(n)jan kee do bhaatee
ek zaatee ek bhae seefaatee.......................................1

The name of the indescriptible has two aspects; one is the essence and the other is the form(which refers to the essence).

utam sab kahee-e zaatee
or bhae sab naam seefaatee........................................2

The most exalted name is the essence; the rest are all it's forms.

jeet piyaa aena(enae) ayaan(aan) kahaayaa
teet naam zaaher eesam dharaayaa..................................3

Where the Beloved has made Himself manifest, he has assumed a physical name.

jo ut thaa so eet ho aayaa
vaahe(wahaa) par (upar) sab jagat(bhek) banaayaa..................4

That (essence) which was there, has become manifest over here. And over here he has created the entire creation( expressing his different facets).

maan gumaan karo mat koee
jo ut thaa so eet fun(fan) soee(hoee).............................5

Do not have any doubts about this. That which was there has been manifest here, i.e the entire creation is His manifestation and therefore He is All pervasive.

hoee rahe-aa hove fun(fan) sohee
e likhiyaa matte(mitte) nahi koee.................................6

That which has happened will continue to happen in the same manner. Nobody can erase this fact.

Variant:
What has been planned so shall it be.

e sab aalam gaeb kahaave
paakee jaakee kahee nahi jaave....................................7

These are all matters pertaining to the hidden world. One cannot describe or reveal them.

khalakat koee naam na paave
sab e paak zahur kahaave..........................................8

The entire creation by itself is meaningless. Everything derives it's essential significance from the it's relatedness to the Divine essence.

Variant:
We cannot understand Him but we all (creation) need Him.

naa tin naam ne tthaam hae
naa bin naam ne tthaam re
jahaa(n) so naam bakhaaneeye(jo lo naam na kahiye)
sab vaa(n)ke hae naam re.....................................III

O you, ...
He has no name nor any abode, yet he is not without a name nor an abode. When you attain the indescribable (nameless) state in meditation, all his names are encompassed there.

Variant:
He has neither a name nor an abode, yet without His name there can be no abode. He has no name yet He encompasses all names (God, Allah, Ishwar, Prabhu, ...)

PART FOUR

sab(pachhe) khalakat arvaaha(vaa(n))ko aalam
jaakee baat allahaku(n) maalum....................................1

He then created this world and only Allah knows the mysteries behind this.

yehee(aayaa) maalam aen(satgur) baalam
jaake saae rahe sab aalam.........................................2

He has come as the Captain to lead or sustain the creation and He is the True Guide the lover, through whom the entire creation is steady.

pahele ruhulkudas kaha roeaa (pahele ruhu ku(n) jasahoroyaa)
aakhir sifat jeebaraeel jo hoeaa(yaa).............................3

At first He brought into existence the Holy Spirit(Ruh Muqadas) and at the end it manifested itself as Hazarat Jabrail.

Variant:
At first the soul enjoys happiness and in the end it is transformed into the form of Hazarat Jibrail( becomes angelic).

jo un (e) chitavanaku(n) nahi roe-aa
so su(n)dar jaagat hae (ee) soyaa.................................4

Those who do not remember(concentrate upon) the name or are not aware of reality, they are asleep even if they appear to be awake.

treejo aalam kahee-e misaal
jaakee murat paak kamaal..........................................5

The third world is called aalam-e misaal i.e., the world of symbols, whose foundations are holy and pure actions.
(Each and every action becomes a symbol and serves as a bridge between the material and the spiritual world).

vaakee khabar or baaz mahaal (vaakee ajampiyaa jaa(m)p mahaal)
ees aalamko aeso haal.............................................6

In this stage the unspoken word vibrates, such is the condition of this world (which leads to the ultimate).

jo toku(n) eesa jugame(n) suje
so sab gam vaakee buje............................................7

If you become aware of this state, then all the mysteries(of creation) are revealed to you.

je dekhe sab vaathee suje (je dekhe te yaa maa suje)
to tu(n) buj nira(n)jan buje (jot buje nira(n)jan buje)...........8

In this stage, whatever you see will be from Him, the one who knows the light in himself knows the indescriptible.

re tu(n)hee ...
piyaa ra(n)g baha ra(n)g hae,
or ra(n)g ra(n)g raho dikaayare;
jab tome rab ddhrasht ho,
to ra(n)g ra(n)g maa(n)he samaayare...........................IV

O You, ...
The Beloved has many facets, and reveals different colours according to the nature of the individual. If your intentions are towards the vision of the Lord, then you become totally immersed in Him.

PART FIVE

pahele faez fayaazthee aave
peechhe mukh aapannaa(arvaaha) dikhaave...........................1

At first He blesses you with his gifts(knowledge and wisdom), then He bestows His Vision(deedaar).

vaathee hoee misaalme(n) aave
taathee (hoee) jo shahaadat paave.................................2

From that state of Deedaar(Marifat) he comes to the world of symbols, therein he attains martyrdom. (i.e. physical death means nothing eg Hallaj was in constant unity with Allah)

chothaa mulak shahaadat kahee-e
bhalaa buraa sab jaame lahee-e....................................3

The fourth state is that of martyrdom(or oneness with Allah); having achieved this state, one has complete understanding of the good and the evil.

hu(n) tu(n) nikal kar jaame kahee-e
allaah rasul ut fan lahee-e.......................................4

In this stage the difference between I and you no longer exists and one attains the understanding of God and the Messenger.

paa(n)chmaa(n) aalam tab kahalaave(dikhalaavere)
jab maanas(munasa) kee murat paave................................5

He shows you the fifth world when you attain the root of manhood i.e love.

Variant:
The fifth stage is then reached whence Love is experienced.

jo aapasme(n) ulatt(ilam) samaave
to jaame sab sifaat kahaave.......................................6

If one engages in the quest, then he attains all virtues(all that is worthwhile).

hay nuzul kee baat tamaam
bin uruj nahi hove kaam...........................................7

The matters pertaining to the higher life are wholesome(complete, all encompassing,that give meaning to life). Without the quest the existence is all futile.

Variant:
These stages teach us that one has to progress to that ultimate goal.

jaanat hay sab khaasaj aam
bin laalan deen(deel) keesee na kaam..............................8

All the knowledgable and the wise man amongst mankind know that without the Guide it is not possible to progress (towards the ultimate).

re tu(n)hee ....
motee jalthee hot ha-e
fir jal kahayo na jaay re;
mugataa fal chhedee-e,
samuddra chhedee-o na jaaere...................................V

O You, ...
A pearl is made from a drop of water, then it is not called water anymore; a pearl can be pierced but can you pierce water?

(This analogy implies that we have come from the ocean of Noor just as a pearl is made from the ocean and unlike a pearl, we should not maintain our ego or individuality, else life will 'pierce' us).

PART SIX

ek aalam suno meraa meetaa
dhartee bhee taa arash jo keetaa(retee laee rasaj jo keetaa)......1

Listen to a story, my friend, about a spiritually elevated person who elevated even the sand around him.

haef (kahe) jo khaaraa meetthaa
kahe tuj yaame keeyaa kar deetthaa................................2

The contemptuous talk about the sour and sweet and say: " what do you see worthwhile in Allah's creation". Variant: Those who do not see good in the things around them, how can they see the good within them?

gun apane ku chit na laave
sab avagun aapasme(n) paave.......................................3

They do not think about virtue and therefore see defects or vices everywhere. Variant: One may strive to do good deeds, yet not keep one's thoughts pure; that person finds that he does not make progress.

sees(sheesh) raakhe kuchhu baat na paave
ees ddarathee kuchhu kaam na bhaave(aave).........................4

If one is pre-occupied with worldly thoughts, he does not achieve anything, and from fears arising from them, nothing is valuable. Variant: To immerse oneself in Divine Love, your thoughts and worldly fears have to disappear.

(jo) nabee muhammad kare shafaa-at
jaa ku(n) hae ummakee riaayat( utam ki raat)......................5

If Prophet Muhammed intercedes, one experiences the exalted night.

jo gur muj par kare eenaayat
to gunaaha mere sab hove taaet....................................6

If the Guide(Mursheed) showers His blessings upon me, then all my sins would be forgiven(and I would advance spiritually).

ye paryo tuj dekhna peev(dehaaee pare mat dekhee-e peev)
jo hae deen duniyaako jeev........................................7

Verily, the purpose of my soul is to meet You, the Lord the soul of the religion and the world.

ees juga me(n) eeyu(n) kar peev
jeeyu(n) dudh daheemaa(n) dheev...................................8

You are present in this world as yougurt is in the milk.

re tu(n)hee ....
vireh raen hae nirmalee
het chit piyaasu(n) laaere;
piyaa aavanakee vel(vreh) hae
mat bhor bhae pachhataa-ere...................................VI

O You, ... Divine Love is ecstatic and the night passed in that thought is beautiful(pure). Create such a desire or else when the dawn breaks you will be sorry to have lost that moment.

PART SEVEN

piyaa darashan kaho kaese paaee-e
taj maayaa or gurse jaaee-e.......................................1

How can you achieve your Beloved's Vision(darshan)? Leave this illusory existence(attachments) and proceed along with the Guide.

ehee karo jo(je) gur farmaave
taa the darashan piyaa ke(kaa) paave..............................2

Act according to the Farmaans of the Guide, then you will attain the Vision of the Beloved.

kee-aa sutaa uutth su(n)dar jaag
manee(buree) manorathee uutth kar bhaagaa.........................3

Why are you asleep? Awake in this beautiful state of wakefulness(awareness, remembrance); then all your negative tendencies(evil desires,lusts,greed) will disappear.

jo tere motte hove bhaagaa
to nit utth gur kere paae laagaa..................................4

If you are very fortunate, then you will rise up to bow at the feet of the Guide everyday.

ek chitvan jo gur kee paave
to teraa tan man nirmal ho jaave..................................5

If you attain perfect concentration(consciousness) of the Guide even for one moment, then your body and mind will become pure(spotless).

nikala(n)k hoee baatt dikhaave
dukh khove sab sukh upajaave......................................6

The pure and spotless personality(the Imaam) explains the mysteries and all the sorrows vanish and peace is attained.

ek nabee or ek gusaaee(n)
ek gur bin chit na laaee..........................................7

You will have awareness of no one else besides the one prophet and one Light which is manifested in the Guide.

or na su(n) jo (or na gu(n)je) man or jaaee
jeevat ko fal mul na paaee........................................8

If your mind gets entangled with anything besides the above mentioned(7), then you will not attain the fruits of your life. i.e. not be able to accomplish your mission in life.

re tu(n)hee ...
ek ahmad ek jagtapati
ek gursu(n) chit laaere;
gur sireve ahamad meele,
to ahamad meem gamaae re.....................................VII

O You, ... There is one Ahmad(the Prophet) and one King of the world. Concentrate upon the command or word(bol) given by the Guide. If you serve(worship) the Guide you will attain Ahmad. Then as you progress in your search you will lose the mim from Ahmad to become Ahad(one) with Allah.(i.e. you will transcend your physical form).

PART EIGHT

jo pa(n)dit or seedh kahaave
chatur sujaann sughadd hoee aave..................................1

If a person regards himself as a scholar and a righteous one, and approaches you as an intelligent all knowing and pure personality

jap tap karee sab janam gamaave
bin gur maarag prem na paave......................................2

... and spends his/her entire life in meditation and abstinence, even then without the Guide(Murshid Kameel) he does not attain the station of love.

jo cheree gur mayaa na paave
dhyaan gyaan kuchh kaam na aave...................................3

If one does not attain the grace of the Guide, his/her concentration and knowledge is useless.

ddhu(n)ddhat doddat janam gamaave
bin gura mayaa na maarag paave....................................4

If one spends his/her entire life seeking and running around, even then without the grace of the Guide, no station is attained.

jo tu(n) laakh tabeeb bulaave
bin guru vednaa na jaave..........................................5

Even if you called upon one hundred thousand physicians, your pain will not go away without the grace of the Guide.

vednaa jaave jo guru chit (l)aavere
dukh khove sab sukh upajaave......................................6

Your pain will go away if the object of your attention is the Guide, sorrow is lost and all peace is attained.

jo(je) gurthee jo vednaa jaave
so gur saachaa peer kahaave.......................................7

The guide through whom pain leaves, is indeed the guide who is regarded as the true Peer.

re tu(n)hee ...
baddaa gur male peeddku(n)
daaru deve chhaar re;
bin gur peeddaa jaave nahee(n)
aayaa vedakaa saar re.......................................VIII

O you, ... If you attain such an exalted guide to take away the pain, he will give you the appropriate medicine. Without the Guide, the pain does not go away for He is indeed the essence of all the scriptures.

PART NINE

jo fun tu ees jugame(n) aayaa
bhaag sobhaag jo apane le aayaa...................................1

You have come into this existence with your own mysteries and have brought your own destiny (luck, fate).

jeene gur saamee shaaha paayaa
maaee putaa vahee pun jaayaa......................................2

And the ones who have attained the Guide, the Lord and the Imaam have indeed fulfilled the most cherished wish of their parents(or have achieved their purpose).

vo gurkaa jo darshan paaee-e
vaa(n)ke charan par bal jaaee-e...................................3

Those who achieve the Deedar of such a guide, submit themselves at His feet willingly.

jo manme(n) eechhchhaa karee laaee-e
so fun ve mayaasu(n) paaee-e......................................4

Whatever noble wishes of the heart that you bring along with you in this exalted submission, will be fulfilled by His grace and mercy.

kar zhahur lattaka(n)daa aayaa
enul eerfaan naam dharaayaa.......................................5

(During His deedaar) he appears or manifests Himself in a very joyous(playful) mood and assumes the gnostic mode of expression.

jug(jaa) par hae(nahee) fan vaakaa saayaa
jeene e jugku(n) baatt lagaayaa...................................6

Thereafter the deedaari's whole existence will come under His shelter(protection) - the one who has established religion in the world.

ene nabeekaa nur peechhaanno
mazhar(tuj) khaas ellaahee jaanno.................................7

Know only Him(and nobody else) as the light of Prophethood which indeed is the manifestation of God.

jo kar kahyaa meraa maano
sab maa(n)go tab vaa peechhaano...................................8

If you believe in what I have told you then you will be able to realise(experience) the spiritual happiness in this world.

re tu(n)hee ...
jees gurku(n) satagur kahu(n)
so ve bhae ghatt maa(n)e re;
jo ghattathee pragatt hoe,
to rome rome sukh paaere......................................IX

O You, ... The one whom I call the True Guide is really within us. When this fact is realised through the inner enlightenment, then one attains peace in every pore of his being(his/her whole being is immersed in peace and joy).

PART TEN

nabeekaa naaeb ho kar aayaa
sab kaahu ke maname(n) bhaayaa....................................1

The Prophet's inheriter(the Imam of the time) has manifested in this age. This fact is heartily desired by everyone(as it is a source of reassurance and conviction).

jaa par nahi(fan) vaa(n) ko saayaa
bhaaga abhaaga so fan(apane) le aayaa.............................2

Those who are under His shelter(mercy), have come along with their good fate and vis versa applies.

vaakee sevaa karo saveree
mat pachhataavo aakhar veree......................................3

Serve Him whenever possible else you will regret it at the final moment.

sab jug hae gur vaake cheree
so seve bhed nira(n)jan meree.....................................4

The entire universe is sustained by the Guide, and therefore serving Him enables one to realise the mysteries of the indescriptible(God).

su(n)dar sujaann sughadd piyaaraa
virehee kahe hu(n) gulaam tumaaraa................................5

He is good looking, all-knowing, immaculate and lovable. The lover says: "I am your slave".

vege karo vaa(n)kaa nistaaraa
vaa ke ghattame(n) karo ujeeyaaraa................................6

Release him(the lover) quickly and enlighten his being.

je(jaa) gurthee hu(n)(jo) laalan paau(n)
ees(sankhe) jugamaa(n) kahaa(n) samaau(n).........................7

When I attain the Lord through such a Guide, won't I be one with the infinite universes?

piyu(n) jalme(n) misaree hoee jaau(n)
virehathee vasalee(ba(n)saree) kilaau(n)..........................8

In the water of love I become dissolved like sugarcandy or am one in His love as the melody is with the flute.

re tu(n)hee, ...
saat deepak nav kha(n)ddmaa(n),
pragattiyaa ena(satgur) shaahare;
jaahaa(n) dekhu(n) taahaa(n) vohee hae,
vohee hae sab ghatt maa(n)here.................................X

O you, ... In seven oceans and nine continents(or seven heavens and nine planets i.e. in this universe), the Lord(True Guide) has manifested Himself. Whereever I look I see Him and He is present in everyone's heart.

PART ELEVEN

aesaa gur jo kabahu(n) paave
or tofik eelaahee aavee...........................................1

If in this life, you attain such a guide and the help of God comes...

jo chit apanaa eetut na ddulaave
tab jaa maarag premkaa paave......................................2

...and if you do not allow your mind to wander from here and there, then you will attain the station of love.

pahele to toku(n) sharee-at bataave
peechhe raahaa tareekat laave.....................................3

At first He shows you the Shariah(the law explaining your purpose in relation to the creation and the creator), then he shows you the path(to achieve your purpose).

tab tuje haal hakeekat aave
maarafat keree sudh tab paave.....................................4

Then you will realise the Haqiqah(truths as they unfold) which will lead you to the awareness of Marifah(gnosis - a higher way of knowing the ultimate).

sunee gaee yu(n) karate baat
dipak sharaee leve haath..........................................5

They who are on the path say that all the sorrows have gone and they become enlightened. Variant: A person who talks about Marifat gets enlightened and finds the right path.

tay kare tab yeh zhulamaat(tay karyo e zhulamaat)
paave aapo aab hayaat.............................................6

It is only then that he overcomes evil and darkness and attains everlasting life in this life.

e zhulamaat tareekat kahee-e
bin ague jahaa(n) raah na lahee-e.................................7

A path without the Guide is a path of darkness.

agavo hoye to sab dukh sahee-e
nahee to sukhsu(n) sharaasu(n) rahee-e?
(yaa te sukh sarover laeeye)......................................8

If you have the Guide then endure all the hardships on the path, where you will have the ocean of peace.

re tu(n)hee, ...
mahaa vikatt ehee vaatt hae,
bin ague gayo na jaa-e-re;
agavo hoe e sa(n)gaat,
amar neer tab paa-ere.........................................XI

O you, ... This path is difficult to follow and without a guide it is difficult to tread this path; if you are in the company of the Guide, you will attain everlasting life.

PART TWELVE

jeene e maarag keeyaa kabul
peechhe kabahee na hove malul.....................................1

Those who accept this path never become unhappy.

kahe tu(n) kalmaa nabee e rasul
doe jugme hove makabul............................................2

Recite the Kalima of the Prophet and the Messenger, you will be accepted in both worlds.

shareeat kee jo raahaa na maane
a(n)dhlaa(adanaa) hae vo kiyaa peechhaane.........................3

If one does not believe in the way of the Shariah, how can such a blind person get himself to understand(the higher mysteries).

jo e bujan buj na maane
so kiyaa saar nabeekee jaane......................................4

If a comprehending person cannot bring himself to believe this(the Shariah), how can he/she ever know the essence of the Prophet.

yaa mukhthee jo munakar hove
so ut kiyaa paave eetahee khove...................................5

If you turn away from the Guide, then how will you achieve there in the hereafter and you will indeed lose everything here.

pett bharee jeeyu(n) murakh?(mukataa) sove
hef kaam jo apanaa khove..........................................6

If you eat your fill then sleep will engulf you and will lose the ability to perform your essential work(ibadat).

amar nabeekaa jo nahi maane
baheraa hae vo keeyaa suna jaane..................................7

Those who do not heed to the Prophet's teachings are truly deaf.

aage ku(n) to chit na aanne
kayaa huaa jo peechhe pachhattaanne...............................6

If you did not give thought to these matters before, of what use is it to regret afterwards.

re tu(n)hee, ...
jeene ehee shabad na maaniyaa
un peechhe mat dodd re;
eet unaku(n) shobhaa nahee,
ut nahi paave tthora re......................................XII

O you, ... Do not run after those who have paid no heed to these words. That have not had respect in this world nor will they have an abode there in the next.

PART THIRTEEN

jab ehee paddade utthake? (ukadd) jaave
jutth saach sanamukh paave(aave)..................................1

When this veil is lifted, the truth about what is false and what is true reveals itself.

utathee chaahe fir eet aave
fir yeh samaa na firu(n) paave....................................2

When a person attains the exalted state and then returns here, he does not get the opportunity again.

second version:

uta gayaa nahee uta fir aave
raaha khudaai paave

And when one reaches the place of no return, he attains the path to salvation.

nishdin zhure bahot(aap) pachhattaave
tohu raahaa nabeekee paave........................................3

When a person languishes day and night in repentence, he then attains the path of the Prophet.

jo sa(n)gat eesakee jaave
sab savaad apanaa bataave.........................................4

When you stay in His company, he gives you the taste of all his sweetnesses.

kaatte(ttaa) haath ne bahot pachhattaave
eso haal bohor na paave...........................................5

If you do not then your life is wasted without a purpose.

"man lahul mawlaa"("maal halaal mawlaa") kee gat paave
jo sa(n)gat sufee kee jaave.......................................6

The ones who attain the stage of "belonging to Mawlaa",get into the path of Sufism.

vae myaanasu aap gamaave
"fa lahul kull" kaa rutabaa paave.................................7

And if one forgets himself, attains the stage of "he has everything".
second version:

ve maayaasu aap gamaave
to fila haal kul maratabaa paave

The one who detaches himself from this illussory existence, attains all the stages(heavens).

jo bhajan karatahee aap gamaave
to piyaasu(n) misaree dudh jiyu(n) mil jaave......................8

If one loses himself in devotional hymns, he in relation to the beloved is like sugar mixing with milk to make it sweet.

re tu(n)hee, ...
lakaddee shakal shareer kar,
gur misaree sa(n)g laae re;
sa(n)gat ke gunn kaaranne,
so misaree tol beekaaere....................................XIII

O You, ... Just as a sugar-cane stem is valued more than an ordinary stem or stick, similarly make your body more precious by incorporating in it your Guide's farmaan so that it stands out from among other bodies.

PART FOURTEEN

mahenat kar kar jo kuchh laave
lok kuttu(m)bsu(n) aadh battaave..................................1

Whatever you earn(after toiling hard), half of it should be spent on your family.

aadh naam allaah khilaave
khaadam(tawbaadam) hoee mukhadumee paave..........................2

And the other half, spend in for Allah and with repentent attitude attain granter of repentance.

lekhaa kaarann jaaku(n) aave
sabathee pahele baheshtame jaave..................................3

When such a momin comes for accountability, he will first of all go to heaven. Variant: If you calculate so then you will have calculated the path to heaven.

eeyaa(n)thee maayaa mul luttaave
tab vo naam fakeer kahaave........................................4

When a person becomes thus detached from this illusion, he then can truely be called a renunciant(fakeer). Variant: Money is an attachment and its sacrifice will show that you have love for the Imaam.

jo koee ger sharaethee bhaage
aadhee raat paachhlee jaage.......................................5

People who transcend from being Shariati endeavour to wake up in the morning.

savaa pahor japtapsu(n) laage
peechhe kaam maayaasu(n) laage....................................6

They meditate for one and a quarter pahors(approx. 3-4 hrs) and thereafter start their day.

bhukh maar aabid(badan) kahaave
maayaaku(n) din raat na dheeyaave.................................7

The ones who curb their hunger(material desires) are regarded as real slaves. They are not involved with attachment to this illusory existence day and night.

nis din saghalaa taaetme(n) jaave
aabidkaa tab martabaa paave.......................................8

When a person's day and night is passed in the essential aspect(ibadat and submission), he/she is then regarded as having attained the status of a slave.

alee samare alee paaee-e,
alee samare sukh ho-e;
nipatt neekatt jo alee vase,
pann alee samarat nahi koee re...............................XIV

O You, ... If you remember Aly, you attain Aly. Through remembrance of Aly peace is attained. Though Aly is very close, nobody remembers Aly.

PART FIFTEEN

naa muja rupa naa gun kachhu(n) saaee(n)
kaese kahu(n) piyaa muj ghar aaee.................................1

I do not possess that form nor that virtue. Then how can I speak about the Beloved arriving at my home. i.e. I do not possess the ability to describe the nature of the Beloved.

toku(n) toh mayaasu(n) paau(n)
karu(n) vadhaaee ma(n)gal gaau(n).................................2

It is only through Your grace and mercy that I attain such a state, then I praise you through songs(geets,qasidas,ginaans).

talab kamaal eellaahee aave
kaddavaa meetthaa sam ho jaave....................................3

When one enjoys(or seeks) Divine beauty, sweet and sour seem the same. Variant: When one is immersed in Divine love, then everything seems sweet.

bhalaa buraa to chit na aave
stuti ni(n)daa ekahee paave.......................................4

He becomes indifferent to the good and the evil, and also to praise and slander.

aesaa darad piyaakaa hove
haal kaal apanaa sab khove........................................5

Such is the condition of being with the Beloved, that one loses his/her own speech and consciousness.
second version:

ni(n)daa kharaab hay so mat karanaa
ni(n)daa karane se munivar daranaa................................

Backbiting and slander is bad, so do not indulge in it. A devotee should be afraid of indulging in it.

nis din jur jur pa(n)jar hove
aese pare to taalib hove..........................................6

Day and night he/she pines with self mortifications for the Beloved. When one falls in such condition he becomes a true seeker.
second version:

ni(n)daa kiye so jaave so dharama
upaje sarve sirpar karma

When one indulges in slander and backbiting, he loses the benifits of religion and incurs bad karma.

nisdin bhar jeevan vahaa(n)ee khutte
maaee put eehaa(n) sab chhutte....................................7

In this search his/her days and nights pass and he becomes oblivious to the material conditions around him.
second version:

ni(n)daa thaaye tiyaa besavu nahi
ni(n)daa kaanu se sunavee nahi re

Do not sit where backbiting and slander is taking place and do not hear about slander.

ek eelaahee sabame(n) dekhe
bhalaa buraa kachhu nahee(n) pekhe................................8

He sees the Divine in everybody(thing) and is indifferent to the good and the evil.

chhutt padde ja(n)jaalthee,(esaa darad piyaakaa hove)
jeene luttaayaa aap re;
piyaa kaarann maayaa tajee
te kaarann pun ne paap re.....................................XV

O You, ... One is indeed freed from the vagaries of time, if one has given himself to the Beloved. He has foresaken this illusory existence for the sake of the Beloved and due to this he becomes indifferent to virtues and vices.

peechhe haal mujaahed aave
ehee kare je nafas na bhaave......................................1

Afterwards, the person attains the status of a warrior and does activities that are contrary to the lower impulses.

bhalaa buraa ekasaa(n) ho jaave
tab tu(n) haal(lahaa e) mushaahed paave...........................2

When good and evil appear the same, then one has indeed attained the status of a martyr(higher status).

vakhat malaamatkaa jab aave
apane(ni) neki aemaal chheepaave..................................3

When people find faults in you(or slander you), your deeds will reveal your purity.

bure amal paragat cheepaave
tab piyaaku(n) esaa har bhaave....................................4

When you are not afraid of owning up to your wrongdoings, then you become dear to your beloved.

nis din darad piyaake(kaa) jaage
sab lallake utth(sab lattake esaa) peechhe laage..................5

When the love for the Beloved is awakened, everything else would seem trivial in comparison.

piyaa kaarann jeene aap gamaayaa
sir daaddhee or mu(n)dd mu(n)ddaayaa..............................6

When one has lost him/herself for the Beloved, got his head and beard shaved( has shaken off worldly greatness).

kaalaa moh kar jag dikhalaayaa
to laalankee laalee paayaa........................................7

When one endures the insults from the world, he attains the vision of the beloved. Or the state of eternal bliss enables him to endure the insults from the world.

kaalaa mo(n)h kar jag fare,
daaddhee mu(n)dd mu(n)ddaae re;
jag ni(n)daa sab sir dhare,
to piyaaku(n) man bhaae re...................................XVI

O You, ... When one roams about in this world black faced and has shaven off his head and beard, and has endured the vilification of the world, has indeed attained the pleasure of the Beloved.

lok kuttu(m)b sab mil kar aave
pa(n)d(pann) naseehat kar samjaave................................1

(When one is lost in Divine love) relatives come together towards him/her to advice him/her out of concern.

vaako haal or kachhu na paave(vaako haal or ku chhupaave)
kar(mari) malaamat fir fir jaave..................................2

They do not know his/her real position and return after taunting and insulting him/her.

maataa pitaa or gharakee naaree
bahen bhaaee or saasu sasaaree....................................3

Parents, wives, brothers, sisters, and the in-laws...

sab mil aave baaree baaree
unaku(n) sabahee deve gaaree......................................4

...seem all to gang up against him/her and taunt him/her.

maataa pitaa kahe bigaddiyo putaa
preme preme piyaalaa pitaa........................................5

The parents say: "Our child has been spoilt and has been under influence of false love".

naar kahe e kahee(n) vigutaa
lok kuttu(m)b kahe laagiyo bhutaa.................................6

His wife says that he has gone astray(become an infidel) and the relatives accuse him of being possessed by a ghost.

ghattathee prem jo upaje bhaaree
maataa pitaa sab preme visaaree...................................7

However, Divine love is so intense that all other loves may seem insignificant.

re tu(n)hee, ...
bhoro lok jaane nahee,
moho man bharaa hak re;(moho man var hay bhor)
piyaa pati jab chit chaddyo,
tab bhul gaye sab lok(dor) re...............................XVII

O You, ... The uninspired do not know that my mind has been under the influence of Divine Love. When the Beloved occupies one's thoughts, then everything else is forgotten.

PART EIGHTEEN

sab jug jeene su(n)dar hee chhoddaa
so kaahukaa sagaa(sang) na soddaa.................................1

The one who detaches himself from this beautiful world, has no relationship with others.

Variant: The person who detaches himself from other people tries not to get involved with them again.

naa(n)h rahe voh hath kaahoraa
kaahaa karat hae uraa toraa.......................................2

This person is not bound to others, then how can one say that he/she is my relation.
Second version:

naru nar hay nahi itaa koddaa
kaahaa karat jo raa toraa.........................................2

This person is 'holy' at heart(innocent) for he has no meetings or goodbyes.

apanee meree maher na aave
sukh thoddaa dukh adakaa paave....................................3

Such a person does not have any attachment for his her spouse for he prefers difficulties on the path to worldly pleasures(outside the path).

kaahaa karat hae panavaa par feraa
sun naseehat karo ghan ghaneraa...................................4

Why do you roam around for nothing? Listen to my advice and partake in abundance of rewarding actions.

voh fan apane laalan keraa
mat ko bhaa(n)kho meraa teraa.....................................5

When you attain the Guide, you will not say that it is mine or yours, i.e. you will have no attachments.

bhukh dukh sab vaa par (na?) aave
jeet jaave teet tthor na paave....................................6

Trials and tribulations such as hunger and pain may come and wherever you go, you may not find peace(outwardly).(But do not give up the Path).

jo piyaako dukh denaa bhaave
to sukh tere kuchh kaam na aave...................................7

If you get pleasure in giving unhappiness to the Beloved, then of what use is your worldly happiness.
second version:

jo piyaako dukh darad na paave
to sukh tere kuchh kaam na aave....................

If you do not accept God-given trials, then worldly prosperity is of no use.

jo sukh kaarann janam gamaave
bin dukh sukh kabahu nahi paave...................................8

You may spend your life for material comforts and pleasures but without trials and tribulations one will never attain inner peace.

or ghattme(n) teraa dukh re(or ghatt teri dhunn re);
dukh tamaaraa ram(mara) raheyaa,

If there is no thought of God in your heart, your heart is filled with unhappiness(or your body is not worth the dust). The worldly trials destroy you, therefore ignite love of God in your heart (so that you may not feel the burden of the worldly trials).

gur jo baatt hakakee laave
pahele nafee(nasiat) eesbaat bataave..............................1

When the Guide wishes to reveal the inner truths(haqaaiq), he first advices you on what is right and what is wrong.

karee tavjo(kartav jo) toe utthaave
aapo aap nira(n)jan paave.........................................2

He than detaches you from whatever you do, and thereby you attain the Pure in your own being.

jab tofeek eelaahee aave
mursheed keraa dhyaan lagaave.....................................3

When the Divine help(grace) comes, one's attention is automatically focussed upon the Guide.

"la illah" kar aap gamaave
"illallah" kar saajan paave.......................................4

When one loses himself/herself in the awareness of there is no Divinity accept God, he she attains the Beloved.

keebar takabbur manee gamaave
keenaa hasad or bugz na liyaave...................................5

One loses the vices of pride and selfishness as one progresses along the path, and there is no room for jealousy and hatred for others(because he is in possession of something far superior).

adu aly ku mul utthaave
so shaah bayak nira(n)jan paave...................................6

As one progresses one overcomes the enemy of Aly(mind and its desires), thereby through the grace of the Guide attains the Pure and indescriptible.

laa yaanee khataraa sab khove
manee manoreeku(n) sab dhove......................................7

One becomes a total renunciant and becomes detached from everything.

zhikar sagallaa khetee bove
nur tajallee ko fal hove..........................................8

He then sows the seed of remembrance in the field of his heart and reaps the fruit of Divine light.

O You, ... When one sows the seed of love in the field of his/her heart, and waters it with contemplative knowledge, he/she reaps the fruit of Divine light if the attention is with the Beloved.

jaaku(n) nur tajallee hoee
taakee gat kiyaa buje koee........................................1

When a person becomes enlightened, it becomes difficult for others to comprehend this state.

laaj sa(n)koch sab vaa(n)thee dhoee
jo nahi vaa(n)thee so fan hoee....................................2

This person becomes indifferent to the norms of the society and does not bother about what others may think of him/her, for his experiences are beyond ordinary conceptions.

kabuek paave kabuek khove
kabajaa vase aa(n)hi sab hove.....................................3

This person may sometimes appear sensible and sometimes above senses yet everything goes according to the way he/she wishes it to go.

kabuek ha(n)se or kabuek rove
kabuek laag piyaa gal sove........................................4

He/She sometimes laughs and sometimes cries and sometimes goes to sleep in the Beloved's arms.

haal mushaahid ko jab aave
sab kaahume piyaaku(n) paave......................................5

When a person attains the state of martyrdom(unity with God), he experiences the Beloved in every walk of life.

jese dekhe tesehee ubal jaave
jeeyu(n) kar een fulan lapatt aave................................6

He exudes love to whoever or whatever he encounters, like a fragrance of a flower. Variant: Enlightened people are like flowers with the scent; just as the scent cannot be separated from the flower nor can the enlightenment be distinguished from the person.

gaer gaeriyat sab utth jaave
buraa bhalaa sab vaaku(n) bhaave..................................7

The thoughts that distinguish you and I or good and evil no longer come to the enlightened person....

raahat aave sab dukh jaave
ye fan eeshk eelaahee kahaave.....................................8

...for he has that peace where no pain reaches and he is eternally in Divine Love.

O You, ... Whom can I be angry with, whom can I meet and whom can I bring to my attention. For my vision is blurred with Your deedar, (and everything seems rosy and peaceful) that friends and enemies are one.

"mutakhallak" ko haal jab aave
ajab ajaaeb haalat paave..........................................1

When a person attains the condition of having the desire for Divine qualities, attains a very astonishing(beyond expactations) state.

kabuek aapasme(n) haree paave
kabuek harme(n) ddul ddulaave.....................................2

At times he/she sees God in him/herself and at times dances(soars) in Divine presence.

jaako haal na bujeeyo jaave
taakee baat na kahee man aave.....................................3

It is difficult for the ordinary person to understand these experiences nor can he/she conceptualize his explanations.

karub navaafil khan kahelaave
khan maa(n)he karub faraez paave..................................4

When this enlightened person prays for His nearness he gets it instantly and he seems to want it again and again.

jo tu(n) ulatt(ilam) hak ho jaave
aapasku(n) gaafil nahee(n)(fan) paave.............................5

When you lose yourself in the truth you will never become ignorant.
When you attain the knowledge of God, you realise that this existence is an illusion.

"bee yasmae" jab chitmaa(n) aave
karub navaafil tab kahelaave......................................6

When the Isme-Azam and you become one, then achieving His closeness becomes easier(through prayers).

jo aapasku(n) aalat(ilam) jaane
faaeel(fel) hak mutalak pahechaane................................7

If you get self-knowledge then you have the knowledge of His creation(you have answers to all His actions).

"maa raeytu" ko giyaan bakhaane
karub faraaez to ut tthaane.......................................8

When one begins to sing "I saw", he attains closeness.
second version:

mere chita ko giyaan bakhaane
karub faraid e to et kaane...............................

(Pir Sadardeen says) people who know what I am talking about appreciate it. My complaint is, O Lord, make us understand and serve you.

piyaa ddhu(n)ddhann hu(n) chalee,
piyaa hae sab tthaaere;
khan gupat khan pragatt hae,
so piyaa kese paaere.........................................XXI

O You, ... I went in search of my Beloved but found him everywhere. At times he was apparent and at times I felt His presence. How can we all achieve Him?(Think about that, o momins).

PART TWENTY TWO

haal hakeekat ko jab aave
aapasku(n) tab mul utthaave.......................................1

When the realization of truth is attained, one's worthlessness(insignificance) is realized.i.e. Real humility is awakened.

aapo aap nira(n)jan paave
aen muvaahadiyat tab kahelaave....................................2

When the Pure and the Formless is attained, then one is indeed called the person with Divine insight.

jab toheed eelaahee aave
aen gaen tab utth kar jaave.......................................3

When the oneness of God(Tawheed) is attained, the separation between I and You disappears.

aapasku(n) jab jalvaa paave
mulhad kaafar naam kahalaave......................................4

When a person attains Divine realisation and power within himself, the others regard him as 'beimaani'(one without faith) or 'kafir'(infidel).

su(n)dar keraa haal na jaane
buree bhalee sab jagat bakhaane...................................5

But no one understands the state of the enlightened, some of the worldly people regard him as virtuous and some as a sinner.

kaaheku(n) vae chit na aane
sab jalvaa us kar jaane...........................................6

They do not give thought to what he says, as all the inner enlightenment is from Allah.

"analhakk" vo utahee bhaakhe
jab lizzat mansurkee chaakhe......................................7

For he will only say 'I am the truth' when he tastes the love Mansur experienced.

Variant: The experience which Mansoor had is the experience to aspire for, for then your whole being will say GOD.

jo kar hifazh maraatab raakhe
laaj sa(n)koch sab falakee raakhe.................................8

When such a person retains the experience gained, he will be able to sustain the honour of his family,(inspite of the taunts and insults from the people for they will not matter).

re tu(n)hee, ...
jab dekhe sab aapaku(n)
or na paave koere;
kaa(n)e na bhaa(n)kho analhakk
aen nira(n)jan hoere........................................XXII

O You, ... When a person attains the state in which he sees his own true self in everything, and sees nothing else besides, then he should not say 'I am the truth' for he has immersed himself into the unknowable(which cannot be described). Variant: When you see yourself in everything then you can say you are God or you can say God is you..., But save this thought till you are one with him for he is infinite.

PART TWENTY THREE

mil(walee) mullaa(n) or kaazee aave
likh fatavaa muftee le jaave(lakh fatwa or marafat ponchaave).....1

The preachers and mullahs gather and come to the enlightened person. They prescribe a religious order(of sanction) against the person and take it to the executioner (mufti).

Second version: The preachers(mullas), religious leaders(wallis) and judges(kaazees) come to visit the enlightened person. They prescribe useless ways of attaining God without marifat(gnosis).

eestifasaar kar shahar(tor) milaave
veree hokar sab maarne aave.......................................2

Then they gather all the people of the town and invoke hatred and enmity against the person. They may even beat him up.

sab dureejan mullaah mil aave
ka(n)kar pathar jo kuchh paave(kufar fatwa jo kuchh laave)........3

They even call him a kafir(infidel).

barachhee jamadar teer chalaave(lagaave)
su(n)dar ke laee duaar chaddaave(chalaave)........................4

They may even take him to task and make his existence full of trials and tribulations.(not literal)

hef jo vaako haal na paave
mullaah daanishma(n)d kahelaave...................................5

Regretfully these people who called themselves knowledgeable priests are the ones who have no understanding of the inner mysteries.

Variant: It is really these people who should be condemned for they are away from the Truth.(not literal)

jees daanishthee buj na paave
esee daanish dhull milaave........................................6

The knowledge from which no understanding is attained is indeed to be regarded as dust.

jo ees maaragkee(mukhkee) saar na jaane
so kayu(n) haal teraa pahechaane..................................7

If one does not comprehend the inner mysteries, how can he ever bring himself to know your state(of enlightenment).

Variant: A lover's talk is understood by a person in love and if you do not understand it then don't belittle him.

teraa haal tu(n)hee fan jaane
kiyaa jaane mulle mullaane........................................8

Your (exalted) condition is known by yourself only. How can the Mulla's know about it.

Variant: Ask yourself where you are but do not judge others like the mullahs (preachers) would.

re tu(n)hee, ...
premee jaane prem ras,
or na jaane koere;
murakh lok jaane nahi,
prem sivaa kiyaa hoere.....................................XXIII

O You, ... Only a lover knows the nector of love, no one else does; those who are foolish(uninspired) cannot understand it, for indeed there is no existence without that love(for the lovers).

PART TWENTY FOUR

murakh je koee jaane naahee(n)
vaa(n) ko haal peechhaane naahee(n)...............................1

The foolish do not know anything(about Divine Love) and therefore cannot comprehend the state of the lover(peace).

rab ddhrashtt ku(n) aane naahee(n)
(deve seer saattaa ku aape naahee)
or kahe to maane naahee(n)........................................2

These people do not submit themselves to the vision of the Lord(or do not sacrifice their heads for the beloved) nor do they respond if told to.

eehaa(n) na buje maaee ne baap
seje khele aapohee aap............................................3

This state of the mystic lover cannot be comprehended even by his/her parents for he comfortably plays(this mystic game) by himself(i.e., it is a very personal path).

na ees maaee na ees baap
huvaa nira(n)jan aapohee aap......................................4

(For) He does not have a mother or father as He became the Unkowable by Himself.

aape mullaa aape kaazhee
aape padde so aap namaazee........................................5

He himself is the priest and He is the judge and He is the prayer leader and He is the performer of prayer.

sab jug dekhe piyaakee baazhee
khele aape aap piyaajee...........................................6

The entire world witnesses the games of the Beloved. The Beloved Himself plays them.

aape saaee(n) bahu gahanyaaraa(ganiyaaraa)
aape nira(n)jan aparampaaraa......................................7

He is beyond comprehension, and He is the unknowable and infinite.

sabame(n) aap sabathee niyaaraa
doee jagmaa(n)he kiyaa pasaaraa...................................8

He pervades everything and yet He is aloof from them. He has manifested Himself in both worlds.

kahee(n) raajaa kahee(n) jog re;
kahee(n) meree kahee purakh hae,
aape karataa bhog re........................................XXIV

O You, ... Where is the soul and where is the body. Where is the king and where is the pauper. Where is the female and where is the male. All these are part of His game.

PART TWENTY FIVE

aape maare aape jeelaave
aape dukh sukh dikhalaave.........................................1

He is the one who kills and He is the one who gives life. He is the one who gives the experience of hardship and sorrow.

Variant: We are the cause of our life and death and our sorrow.

pun paap doe aap karaave
aape sarag narag le jaave.........................................2

He causes us to do good and to sin and He takes us to heavens and hell.

Variant: Our sins and our good deeds are our doing and they take us to heaven or hell.

aap piyaa hae je koee jaane
bhalee buree doee naam bakhaane...................................3

He is the Beloved for the ones who understand, and they percieve only His attributes in good and bad.

Variant: If you make yourself your Lord then can you really recognize what's good or what's bad? i.e. If you let your ego rule your existence then the humility of submitting oneself to the Lord is lost.

mayaa kare tab yeh budh aane(mayaa karavat e vaja aane)
aap gamaave sab piyaaku(n) jaane..................................4

When His grace descends then only one attains this awareness, when one loses oneself one knows that everything is from the Beloved.

Variant: Do not make that mistake - lose your attachments and lose yourself in Him to recognise Him.

mayaa karo vireheekee saaee(n)
to dar(ghar) chhodd kar kaho kit jaaee(n).........................5

O Lord save me from the pain that I have of being away from You. Where can I go and who can I talk to if You won't listen.

maa(n) ghattmaa(n) lattaka(n)daa aayaa
ghatt paragat ho dikhalaayaa......................................6

You came smilingly to my heart and revealed to me Your true nature(blessed me with your deedar).

ek(lekh) alakh lakh bhaa(n)t kahaayaa
sab asmaa(apasmaa kaa) tab jalvaa paayaa..........................7

You are such that I cannot conceive You with my mind and I cannot describe You with my words. I have seen you within me and I see you everywhere(or I have realised that You are encompassed in all the Names of God).

kahee(n) jamaal kahee(n) jalaal ho aayaa
kahee badal(mullela) haadee kahelaayaa............................8

You have manifested yourself on occassions as the most beautiful and on occasions as most powerful. Sometimes you have called yourself as the leader. (indeed You are my true leader).

piyaa lattakat lattak chhodd de;
bikhar gae sab baal re;
kahee(n) zhaaher kahee(n) baatan hae,
kahee(n) jalaal kahee(n) kamaal re...........................XXV

O You, ... Do not get bogged down about how the Beloved expresses Himself, for that will only make you lose your hair. Sometimes He is manifest, sometimes He is hidden, sometimes He is the most beautiful and sometimes He is the most powerful.

Variant: Stop worrying about why this! why that! for worries will only make you lose your hair - The things that seem unreasonable to you have a reason so do not let the surprises ruin your Imaan.

PART TWENTY SIX

aarifkee jab sudh budh aave
bahor fir tasavvurme(n) aave......................................1

One who recognises Him furthers his/her knowledge and it seems to increase everyday.

giyaan dhiyaan loko ku(n) bataave
gur saachaa ho baatt dikhaave.....................................2

Then he preaches others about wisdom and appropriate meditation. By becoming a true guide he shows the way.

hifazh maraatab ku(n) jab raakhe
aarifkee tab lizzat chaakhe.......................................3

When one maintains the status of exaltedness(i.e is on the Path), he tastes the essence of the gnostic.

Variant: When a person realizes his/her stage of advancement, he then tastes the qualities of the Creator.

aesee vaesee baat na bhaakhe(aesee baat kabee na bhaake)
saabit kadam jaaherme(n) raakhe...................................4

The elevated person does not talk about trivial matters and is steadfast and rigorous in observance of his duties.

jab tameezh eelaahee hove
saaadat saahebkee sab leve........................................5

When he/she has the understanding of the mysteries of God, the Creator blesses him/her with His good qualities.

baetth nira(n)jan apanaa seve
sabaku faezh hakeekee deve........................................6

Then he serves his unknowable being seated(comfortably) and conveys the understanding of the Truth to mankind.

aapasthee jab mutalak(matalab) jove
buj nira(n)jan aesaa hove.........................................7

When one attains self realization, he knows the unkowable.

aap nira(n)jan ho kar jaave
sab jag apanaa mazhar paave.......................................8

When one becomes one with Him, he/she sees his/her self manifested everywhere(in harmony with creation).

aap gamaave piyu(n) meele,
aarif kahee-e taa(n)e re,
or aapasku(n) buj kar,
ane daas kahaave taa(n)e re.................................XXVI

O You, ... If one loses him/herself, he/she attains the Beloved, it is only then that he/she can be regarded a real gnostic. When a person realizes him/herself, he is then regarded as a slave or true devotee.

Variant: Losing your ego will lead to getting Him for He is the only one worth knowing; if only you knew Him you'd realize how insignificant you are.

PART TWENTY SEVEN

aarif billaah tab kahalaave
jap tap karee sab janam gamaave...................................1

A true gnostic is the one who devotes his/her entire life in meditation and worship.

Variant: The one who has achieved Him is the one whose life is Him.

faanee(fanaa) thee baakee ho jaave
buj nira(n)janko daas kahaave.....................................2

He becomes an immortal after annihilation(in God) and having known Him thus, he becomes a slave of Him.

hifazh maraatabko tab raakhe
jab lizzat eerfaankee chaakhe.....................................3

He can only maintain the exalted status(the True Path), when he has tasted the essence of a gnosticism.

Variant: Such a person can remember everything and is fortunate to have Spiritual Bliss.

paanee jaane ullaah(allaah) bhaakhe
maatteeko naam jo baasan(bundan) raakhe...........................4

He knows the water(of life, ameeras) and speaks about exalted matters (only). He regards his physical body made of clay as a vessel only.

Variant: His soul is elevated and he is detached despite being physically here.

aape apaasku(n) gher paave
baayazheed(banjinda) ho baatt dikhaave............................5

In this manner when one sees himself in God, he may sometimes do spiritual feats to impress others and guide them to the right path.

aarif billaah tab tu(n) hove
aapasaku(n) jab mutalak khove.....................................6

You will only become a gnostic when you have totally annihilated yourself in Him.

Variant: Lose yourself in Him and you will find Him.

vahedat kasarat chitathee(n) dhove(vireh dil kee surat chit...)
faanee thee baakee fan hove.......................................7

When you wash your mind(heart) by constant rememberance of oneness of God, you gradually annihilate yourself in Him and become immortal.

ane ghatt ghatt rahyo samaaere
acharat dekho ane sakhee
tthaakur daas kahaaere.....................................XXVII

O You, ... Through constant rememberance of oneness(or through realization of oneness), all other thoughts and desires vanished and I found myself totally immersed in You. O friend, an astonishing fact is that having attained the spiritual kingship thus, I call myself a slave.

PART TWENTY EIGHT

jab tu(n) aen shaen me(n) jaave
haal tajallee barkee aave.........................................1

When you will become holy (elevated or sinless) then you will feel the brightness that can perhaps be equalled to lightening.

aapasku(n) a(n)t mul na paave
aen nira(n)jan ho kar jaave.......................................2

When you are not conscious of your own existence, you become the unknowable(become one with Allah).

gaer kahe pann gaer na jaanne
daas kahaae allaah peechhaanne....................................3

Then you may say that you are separate from Allah(from the Zaheri point of view), but in reality, you will not be separate from Him(from the batini point of view). Indeed you will call yourself a true slave having complete understanding of Allah.

jaesaa hae taesaa kar jaane(maane)
jyu(n) kar hae teeyu(n)hee kar maane(jaane).......................4

Then you will know Him in the manner in which you ought to and you will believe in Him in the way you should.

Variant: It is indeed your deeds that enable you to understand Him and when deeds are not adequate then your knowledge of Him will be inadequate.

deenee dunee or(kee) zhulamat nur
dozhakh bahesht or hur kasur......................................5

The misconceptions of the world and religion are erased by the Nur. Hell, heaven and angels become meaningless(or assume different meaning after the experience).

sab asmaako bhayo zhahur
te maa(n)he aape aap gafur........................................6

All the names of Allah are manifest and His essence is contained in them.

Variant: God has manifested Himself in everything.

huvaa nazul uruj tamaam(hey zul araj tamaam)
jaako buj nira(n)jan naam.........................................7

When ascent(of the soul) and descent(of Grace) have attained their limits, then this state is regarded being truly gnostic(state of self realization).

Variant: He is present in both the worlds and we call him God.

shaha ragathee nedde rahemat
buj nira(n)jan karo kuchh kaam....................................8

The unknowable is much more near to you than your brain(nerves), so recognise this fact and act accordingly to come closer to Him.

O You, ... The image of love is in my whole being and that is what God is like. He manifests Himself in this world so try to find Him and recognise Him.

PART TWENTY NINE

het maayaa jo chitathee jaave
laakh karodd jo mil aave..........................................1

When the love of this illusory existence leaves the mind(i.e. when one gets completely detached from illusion), the person does not get lured even by a million dollars.

vaake chitme(n) tthor na paave
so su(n)dar zhaahed kahelaave.....................................2

It is only such a person who is to be regarded as real saint(for his desires are ethereal).

e sab taalab baheshtke hove
sab dozhakhke ddarthee rove.......................................3

The rest are all in pursuit of paradise and cry for the fear of hell.

laabh kaarann bahesht ku(n) khove
aesaa murakh tu(n) kyu(n) kar hove................................4

For the sake of worldly gain, they lose paradise, why live in such foolishness?

khaadim or faker divaane
zhaahid aabid khare siyaane.......................................5

The (religious) servants, ascetics and priests, are the ones who worship and supposedly understand matters pertaining to faith.

nisadeen dozhakh bahesht bakhaane
shaah apaneku(n) chit na aane.....................................6

They talk about paradise and hell but do not have the (knowledge of the) Lord in their minds.

jeene shaah dozhakh bahesht nipaaee
saat deep nav khand banaaee.......................................7

The one who created the heavens and hell and the seven oceans and nine continents....

yeh sab rup anup dikhaaee
yeh ahamad kere sa(n)g lagaaee....................................8

He has shown us everything and has given us the link of the Prophet.

re tu(n)hee, ...
kaahe laave man orsu(n)
or kaahe dulaave chitare;
ek pal chit piyaasu(n)
jahaa(n) chitavan tahaa(n) nitare...........................XXIX

O You, ... Why do you waste your time with meaningless attachments and why do let your thoughts wander? Concentrate and attach yourself to your Beloved so that you may find Him and see Him everywhere.

PART THIRTY

jo gur raahaa tareekat laave
maayaa pu(n)jee mul luttaave......................................1

When the Guide takes you on the Path(Tariqat), he detaches you from your wealth and other material considerations.

ghar duaarku(n) aag(ra(n)g) lagaave
majnu(n) hoee leleeku(n) dhiaave..................................2

In your love for Him, you become detached from your home and other physical considerations. Becoming Majnun you devote yourself to Laila(the Beloved).

prem piyaareko jab hove
or hosh(hu) sab dilthee(n) khove..................................3

When such love of the Beloved takes hold of you, your ego ('I'ness) (and other desires) disappear and your heart becomes holy.

nisdin jaage kabahu(n) na sove
zhaar zhaar do tenaa rove.........................................4

You are awake day and night(and therefore in constant guard against evil); your eyes never dry for the separation from your Lord becomes unbearable.

hirade maa(n)he aagasee laage
aage hove so aage aage............................................5

It is like your heart is aflamed and burning and you go through the motions of existence.

chaahe(gaye) jyu(n) pa(n)khee udd jaau(n)
laalan keraa darshan paau(n)......................................6

And you would wish that if you were a bird you would fly away and attain the Vision of the Lord.

Variant: When your soul becomes an entity and flies away, then you can achieve didaar.

saajan par hu(n) bal bal jaau(n)
le saajanku(n) gale lagaau(n).....................................7

On such a Lord I submit my being and I'd like to embrace Him. (Make a necklace of Him and wear Him around my neck)

pa(n)khee hoee(hu) jo oodd sagu(n)
to jaau(n) piyaakee odd re;
ek jeevkee kaaj hae
vaaru(n) laakh karodd re.....................................XXX

O You, ... If only I were a bird, I would fly to you my Lord: for my soul, O Lord, I can give up millions of attachments and get You.

PART THIRTY ONE

laalan moku(n) laalee kaanee
virehkee maaree feeru(n) divaanee.................................1

O my Lord your love is like an arrow which has pierced my heart and the pain of separation is unbearable.

lok kuttu(m)bsu(n) bhaee begaanee(bigaanee)
saajan meree saar na jaanee.......................................2

The worldly attachments and my family do not mean much to me now, yet my Lord why don't you 'enquire' after me.

bin shaah dehanakaa haal na koee(bin shaah din na kilaave koee)
piyaa kaaran saghale deen roee....................................3

Without the Lord, my body has no state(purpose), and for the sake of the Beloved I cry for whole day.

Variant: Without you my Lord, my religion has no meaning, and I feel like crying day and night.

maaee baap na puchhe koee
jeene laagee buj fan soee.........................................4

I don't have to ask my mother and father for no one will know what I feel for you.

jaaku(n) karak(karavaa) kaleje hove
so kyu(n) nee(n)d kar saukhasu(n) sove............................5

The one whose liver has become sour (due to the love for the Beloved); how can he/she sleep peacefully(in ignorance of the purpose).

sab het chit apanethee dhove
nisadin nenu(n) lohee rove........................................6

Those who love Him purify their minds of worldly concerns and attachments and they shed tears of blood everyday.

raatdin muje nee(n)d na aave
nisadin nenu(n) paanee jaave(bahaave).............................7

Sleep no longer is important and tears are their companion.

hu(n) muee saajan tere haave
tuje meree maher na aave..........................................8

O Lord I have died for your sake, yet you do not have mercy upon me!

re tu(n)hee, ...
dekho sakhee saheliyo(shaahaaniyaa)
dehanako haal behaalre;
piyaa pati jab chit chaddiyo
tab muee sa(m)bhaar sa(m)bhaar..............................XXXI

O You, ... O friends, look at my body. When the Beloved husband took hold of my mind, I have died through constant rememberance of Him.

Variant: O my friends, look at my body. How strange it seems for since I have found Him this body does not seem mine and I can no longer withstand the pain of separation. O how I want Him constantly.

PART THIRTY TWO

saajan par hu(n) sadaa balhaaree
jeene saajan mohe nipatt bisaaree.................................1

I am forever enslaved to my Lord but He seems not to care about me.

nisadin nenu(n) laagee taaree
kabuek aave hamaaree vaaree.......................................2

Day and night my eyes are turned towards you; when will it be my turn for that Vision?

jab mae(n) darashan dekhu(n) teraa
sab dukh bisare chitathee meraa...................................3

When I have the experience of Your Didaar, all the sorrows will leave my mind.

sukh upaje man gane ganeraa
laalan karo hamaare yahaa(n) feraa................................4

I know I'll experience eternal bliss if only You would come to me -come to me and complete my evolutionary cycle.

ab ke ma(n)e jo saajan paau(n)
haydde a(n)dar sej bichhaau(n)....................................5

If I now attain the Lord, I will lay a bed for Him in my heart.(so that He may stay there for ever)

meelu(n) useeke nur sa(n)gaath
fir dusarekaa nav jaalu(n) haath..................................6

I will be one with His noor, and thereafter I'll never have to hold anyone else's hand(or care for anyone else).

hayddu(n) talapee maaree maaree
kahaa(n) sahu(n) e dukh hae bhaaree...............................7

You can see, my Lord, my heart is in turmoil, how can I bear this sorrow?

darshan dikhaao swaamee pyaare
vireh bhukh tihaaree maare........................................8

Give me Your Deedaar, o my loving Lord so that the hunger(and doubts) felt during the separation may vanish.

dilake a(n)dar dau(n) utaaree
saajan tum par jaau(n) balhaaree..................................9

I will lock You in my heart and forever remain your slave.

re tu(n)hee, ...
darashan deeyo shaahjee
sudh budh gaee haraae re
preetam paas bulaae ham
gaee sudh leeho aaere......................................XXXII

O You, ... O Lord, grant me Your vision(deedar), for I have lost awareness and intelligence. When the Beloved calls me at His place, I will regain all my awareness and intelligence.

Variant: Please grant me your didar for you know how I feel; my mind and my intellect are no longer mine, O my love call me and do look after me.

PART THIRTY THREE

jo nafsaaniyat ku(n) naakhe
sab rozhe ramzhaan ke raakhe......................................1

When a person gains control over his/her lower self(nafs-e-amaaraa), indeed is to be regarded as having fasted the whole month of Ramadhan.

manathee hoee shahaadat bhaakhe
tab lizzat eeslaamkee chaakhe.....................................2

Then, if he recites the Kalima with the conviction of mind, he get's the taste of Islam(constant peace).

chaar mazhab barhak karee maane(jaane)
chaar kitaabku(n) sahee peechhaane................................3

When he/she regards the four religions as true and considers the four holy scriptures as true...

or(apane) nabee sab(ku) hak kar jaane
tab tuj hove durast eemaan........................................4

and when he/she believes in all the prophets, then he/she may be regarded as one with strong Imaan.

vaajab farazh jo sat karee jaane(maane)
sab ehakaam arkaan pichhaane......................................5

If he/she accepts all the religious duties and obligations, and knows all the articles of faith.

rozh kayaamat sahee karee maane(jaane)
sab kaahuku(n) maname(n) tthaane..................................6

And when he/she believes in the Day of Judgement and keeps all these matters in his/her heart...

padde kuraan kitaabaa buje
to tuje raah nabeekee suje........................................7

And then he/she studies the Holy Quran, he/she gets the real understanding of the Path of the Prophet.

jo mukh ahmad keraa buje
raah nira(n)jan aape suje.........................................8

When a person understands the teachings of Muhammed, he/she gets the realization of the path towards the unknowable(God).

re tu(n)hee, ...
jo buje maarag peer sadardeen keraa
jo hae sadaa kabul re
sab nabee-o(n)ke sartaaj hae
so dule nabee rasul re....................................XXXIII

O You, ... If one knows the path shown by Peer Sadardeen, which has been ackowledged by the Lord as being everlasting (and hence knows the Right Path). Prophet Muhammed is the most exalted of all prophets and Peer Sadardeen is his progeny.

Variant: Those who recognise the path taught by Pir Sadardeen know the sirat-ul-mustaqeem(True Path): Pir Sadardeen is like a crown on Hazrat nabi's head and nabi is the King...Salvaat.
