Sir Edwin Lutyens' buildings will be getting special visitors on October 6. For the first time, Sir Edwin's grandson Charles along with his cousins will visit the buildings designed by the legendary architect in the Capital.
The three are part of a 38-member group on a five-day tour to India, organised by the Lutyens Trust in London and the INTACH's London chapter.
Charles Lutyens is a trustee of the UK Lutyens Trust, an educative charity that protects and preserves Sir Edwin's works and offers maintenance.
The tour, according to sources, has been packed with meetings with dignitaries, visits to heritage and World Heritage Sites in Delhi and, of course, buildings designed by Sir Edwin.
The high-point of the tour, sources say, is a visit to some of the Lutyens' Bungalows in Central Delhi and a few Cathedrals in the city. These include the St. Thomas Church on Mandir Marg, St James Church at Kashmere Gate and St. Martins Church in Old Delhi area.
''The main aim is to show the visitors how conservation work is carried out in India,'' said an INTACH official.
On day one, the group will be taken to the Qutub Minar complex, followed by a tour of the monuments of Jamali Kamali and then the Tughlaqabad Fort.
On the second day, the delegation will visit Humayun's Tomb complex and attend a seminar-cum-workshop on the Preservation of Lutyens Delhi, organised by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage INTACH). His excellency Aga Khan will address the group at Humayun's Tomb.
Next on the agenda will be a 10-minute meeting with President APJ Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhawan and a walk around the Mughal Gardens.
The group is also expected to visit Baroda House, Northern Railways Museum, Hyderabad House, Parliament Annexe, Teen Murti Bhavan, National Gallery of Modern Art and the Indira Gandhi Memorial.
During their stay in Delhi, the group will also be meeting Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Jagmohan, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
