H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan welcomed the visit today to Kabul of His Highness, Agha Khan, as a long-standing friend to the Afghan people.
During their meeting in the Presidential Palace, the President thanked His Highness Agha Khan for his contribution to the reconstruction of Afghanistan through the projects of the Agha Khan Foundation.

These include the construction of bridges on the Amu River and the Kabul Serena Hotel, which are major investment projects in Afghanistan. The importance of the establishment of a link between Afghanistan and Tajikistan through the bridges of the Amu River was emphasized.

His Highness Agha Khan asked the Government and the municipality of Kabul for their support to enable the improvement of the Kabul Serena Hotel area.

In the presence of H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan, and Dr.Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Agha Khan signed an M.o.U. with H.E. Yonoos Qanooni, Minister of Education, regarding the establishment of an academy of excellence in Kabul similar to the international network of academies of excellence, which the Agha Khan Foundation supports in several other countries.

Before leaving Kabul today, His Highness, Prince Agha Khan visited Babur Shah garden in Kabul.
