I think Alamshar has improved hugely since the Irish Derby [Alamshar's owner, the Aga Khan ]Alamshar scored another notable win
Irish Derby winner Alamshar upheld the reputation of three-year-old horses with a comfortable victory in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.
The John Oxx-trained horse, ridden by Johnny Murtagh, kicked for home entering the straight and finished three-and-a-half lengths ahead of Sulamani. Epsom Derby victor Kris Kin, ridden by Kieren Fallon, ran on well for third, two lengths behind Frankie Dettori's mount. Murtagh, who only had one previous ride in the King George, was delighted with Alamshar's performance. 'I was in a lovely position and I just wanted to wait until the two pole before I let him go,' he said 'I let him revv-up to the two marker and then I asked him to quicken, and when I did it went all quiet.
'I looked round and I couldn't believe it. He's some horse.'
The trainer admitted her was relieved that the rain held off long enough for the horse.
'The ground was okay but he is a progressive horse,' admitted Oxx.
'He is progressing. You'd expect good three-year-olds to get better and better, although you couldn't have predicted he'd win that well.
'It was a terrific effort. He was always travelling along very well in the right position.
'I was confident turning into the straight when I looked behind and I couldn't see anything going as well as him. It was a no-worries race.'
