President General Pervez Musharraf’s visit to a renovated fort in the Shigar Valley in Skardu District, Northern Areas, was postponed because of heavy rain in the area, sources told Daily Times on Monday. The president will visit the region today (Tuesday).

Sources said that arrangements for the president’s visit were complete and it was “subject to the weather”. They said heavy rain and thick clouds had made it dangerous for aircraft to fly in the mountainous region, adding that President Musharraf and Prince Karim Aga Khan would visit when the weather cleared. Separately, Frontier Works Organisation sources said the organisation had cleared thick mud from the Karakoram Highway, caused by landslides, and traffic had resumed. They added that a Chinese delegation had also reached Sust , near the Pakistan-China border, on Sunday to participate in the inauguration of a dry port in Sust by the president. The dry port was a joint venture by both countries. staff report
