H.H. The Aga Khan meets with Muslim leaders in Damascus  2004-02-15

President Bashar al-Assad received at al-Shaab Palace on Sunday Prince Karim Agha Khan, the Ismaelite Moslems Spiritual Leader.
Talks during the meeting dealt with stages of the projects which Agha Khan foundation implements in Syria and with the future developmental projects the Agha Khan network for developments intends to implement in Syria.

His Highness Prince Karim Agha Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaelite Moslems, received the Minister of Education Dr. Ali Saad in his residence on Sunday evening.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the fields of cooperation between Agha Khan Network for Development and the Syrian Education Ministry, particularly the development of education systems, the rehabilitation of the relevant cadres, improving education to rise to the level of world development in this field.

His Highness also met the Minister of Health Dr. Mohammad Eyad al-Shatti. Talks dealt with the program of the health villages in which the Agha Khan Network for Development participates, improvement of the quality of basic social services in the rural societies, prospects of economic development, improvement of the health, technical administration as well as clinical care in many medical facilities.

His highness also met the Minister of Culture Dr. Mahmous al-Sayyed where both discussed the projects being built in Syria by the Agha Khan Institution for Culture with the cooperation and supervision of the General Directorate of Archeology, including the restoration of Aleppo Citadel, Missiaf Citadel, the Ayyoubi Compound at Saladdin Fortress in Lattakia.

Talks also dealt with organizing training courses for the staff of the General Directorate of Archeology on the internationally-adopted methods in the fields of restoration of historical antiquities and relics.

The meetings was attended by Mr. Mohammad Seifo, the Representative of The Agha Khan Network for Development in Syria.

The Agha Khan Network for Development is a group of non-profit development agencies and firms aims at contribution in the economic, social, scientific and educational development in many countries across the world.

Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri on Sunday discussed with Prince Karim Agha Khan, the Ismaelite Moslems Spiritual Leader, the standing relations of cooperation between the government and Agha Khan network for development in the healthy, educational, developmental, cultural and tourist domains.

Projects of the rural development, healthy villages, human and social activities of network as well as ways to develop and widen the network future prospects were also discussed during the meeting.

Health Minister, Mohammad Iyad al-Shatti and representative of Agha Khan network for development in Syria Mohammad Mufadi Seifo attended the meeting.

Later, Prince Karim Agha Khan met at his residence with Tourism Minister Dr. Sa?dalla Agha al-Qal?a .

Talks during the meeting dealt with the tourism in Syria and ways of cooperation between Agha Khan network for development and Tourism Ministry for developing the tourist work in Syria.

Worthy mentioning that the Agha khan establishment for culture has been involved in maintenance and renovation works in three Syrian castles which are the citadels of Aleppo, Mesyaf and Salah Eddine in collaboration with the Syrian general establishment for antiquities and Museums at the Syrian ministry of culture.

M. Mohammad Naji Itri, président du Conseil des Ministres, a reçu aujourd'hui le prince Karim Agha Khan avec qui il a discuté des relations de coopération existant entre le gouvernement syrien et le réseau de l'Agha Khan pour le développement dans les domaines du développement, de l'éducation, de la culture, du tourisme, des villages sanitaires et du développement rural.

M. Itri et le Prince Agha Khan ont examiné également les activités et les services octroyés par le réseau de l'Agha Khan dans les domaines humanitaires et sociaux.

A cette rencontre ont pris part Dr Mohammad Iyad al-Chatti, ministre de la santé, et le représentant du réseau de l'Agha Khan pour le développement en Syrie, M. Mohammad Seifo.

Le Prince Karim avait mené hier des entretiens avec le ministre du tourisme, M. Saadallah Agha al-Qalaa, portant sur les moyens de renforcer la coopération entre le ministère du tourisme et le réseau de l'Agha Khan pour le développement de l'activité touristique en Syrie.

Le réseau Agha Khan, notons, contribue, en collaboration avec la direction des antiquités et des musées en Syrie, au développement de la citadelle d'Alep et à la restauration de la citadelle de Saladin, et à d'autre projets culturels dans le pays.
