The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, is to open its first representative office here on May 4. The new office is located at the Oud Metha Office complex and will be opened by Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qassimi, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and Director of the Sharjah Medical District.
Two public health awareness programmes, one each in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, have been organised on May 4 and May 5, in connection with the opening of the office.
The programme entitled 'Signs, Symptoms and Care' will include presentations by the heads of the cardiology and cardiac surgery departments from the Aga Khan University Hospital.
The new office in Dubai will act as a referral to the Hospital. The objective is to offer cost-effective options for Pakistani and Asian expatriates working in the UAE, as well as to provide a health care option to UAE nationals who may not wish to travel to the West for treatment.
The office in Dubai will also provide information on the speciality care and services available at the hospital, forward patients' medical records to the appropriate hospital specialist for review and opinion, provide estimates which will enable patients to know beforehand the cost of treatment, help patients make transportation and lodging choices in Karachi, and respond to any other special needs or requests.
The hospital is the principal teaching site of the Aga Khan University in Karachi, which is the first international private university in Pakistan.
The university is an academic centre of the Aga Khan Development Network, a group of development agencies, institutions and programmes that work primarily in the developing parts of Asia and Africa.
The hospital started operation in 1985 and is a philanthropic, non-profit, private teaching institution.
It provides high quality patient care in a broad range of secondary and tertiary care services to over 33,000 hospitalised patients and to over 344,000 outpatients annually.
