Prince Amin Aga Khan arrives in Damascus - 2004-04-28

Prince Amin Aga Khan, brother of His Highness prince Karim Aga Khan the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, has just arrived in Damascus, Syria in a two-day visit to discuss with officials the development programs which the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is doing in Syria.
He was received at Damascus International Airport by the governor of Damascus Dr M. B. Almufti.
Since the signing of the development cooperation agreement between the Syrian government and the AKDN in November 2001, the AKDN through its different agencies launched a series of programs in a number of Syrian provinces in the fields of early childhood development, teacher training, healthy villages, rural development, water management and microfinance. It has also provided computer labs to a number of schools and medical instruments to a number of hospitals. The AKDN is also doing restoration, rehabilitation and civil planning in 3 historical sites
