President Mwai Kibaki and the visiting spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, Aga Khan held talks at State House on Monday.
The Presidential Press Service said in a statement that the two held lengthy discussions but did not divulge the particular issues on the agenda.
Those present during the talks were the Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Peter ole Nkuraiya and the Chief of Protocol George Owuor.
His Highness the Aga Khan holds substantial shares in a number of key companies crucial to the local economy.
The Aga Khan Development Network has been active in Kenya for several decades and is involved in education, health and rural development programmes sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation.
Its education services operates some 15 schools in the country while the Aga Khan health services runs three major hospitals in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.
The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development promotes enterprise and development in the private sector in fields ranging from agro-processing, packaging and power generation.
The fund is also involved in running a string of Serena hotels and lodges as well as the Diamond Trust Bank and Jubilee Insurance Company.
