On Thursday, 4 February 2016, the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad had the pleasure of hosting a visit by the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Premier of the Province of Ontario, Canada. The Premier was accompanied by 33 members of her official team from the larger 75-member 'Canada Mission to India' trade delegation.

The Premier's visit was the result of her personal request to engage with and spend time with students, as well as better understand the philosophy and difference that the Academies bring as a unique new network of schools envisioned by His Highness the Aga Khan. In May of last year, His Highness the Aga Khan and Premier Kathleen Wynne had signed an agreement of cooperation that established a formal partnership between the Aga Khan Academies and the Province to work together on mutually beneficial education initiatives.

Twenty-two students from grades 10, 11 and 12 were involved in engaging with the delegation during their visit. Accompanied by members of Academy staff, these students personally guided the Premier's visit to activities that she had selected from the usual Thursday After-School Enrichment Programme. Model United Nations, the Senior School art rooms, dance club and cricket featured prominently.

Other members of the visiting delegation, including Ministers, members of the Ontario Cabinet, several Members of Parliament, and the Mayor of the City of Mississauga, were guided on parallel tours that featured social enterprise and arts and culture orientations. Visits to the organic farm, business and enterprise club, Junior School table group, table tennis and swimming formed the core of these walking tours.

Following the tours, additional guests joined the Head of Academy and the visitors for afternoon high tea. Premier Wynne and her team enjoyed their visit enormously, commenting that it was a "highlight of their tour to India" and that the Academy is truly a "wonderful school" with "amazing students".

We are very proud of our students who represented His Highness, the Aga Khan Academies and Hyderabad so powerfully. Alumni of all Academies have been invited to visit the Ontario Legislature as a result of this warm and productive visit.
