Global Ismaili community leaders to participate in the event in Hyderabad

The Shia Ismaili community on Tuesday will celebrate the Diamond Jubilee or the 60th year of Aga Khan as the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader). This worldwide celebration brings together the global Ismaili community, partners of the Aga Khan Development Network, the government and the faith’s community leaders in over 25 countries.

One of the visible gifts Hyderabad has received from Aga Khan is the conservation and restoration of Qutb Shahi Tombs at the foothills of the Golconda foundation. “We try to improve the quality of life of the community we work with. In Hyderabad our focus is on culture. Working on conservation of built heritage is also one of the ways of helping people,” said Ratish Nanda of Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

The organisation also plays a key role in the field of education, at Maheshwaram Mandal. “We are running a teacher training programme in collaboration with the State and the Central government under the Rajiv Gandhi Vikas Mission,” said a spokesperson for AKDN, highlighting the organisation’s socially responsible enterprises.

There will be a private event for Aga Khan and leaders of the Ismaili Community on July 11 marking the historic occasion. Global ceremonies coinciding with this celebration would be hosted by the Ismaili community in conjunction with the event.
