Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan was the 48th Imam of the Ismaili community and the grandfather of the present 49th Imam, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. His birthday is celebrated on November 2.

The Beloved Imam of the Ismailis, Mowlana Sultan Mohamed Shah Passed away on July 11th, 1957. He appointed his grandson Mowlana Shah Karim Al-Hussayni age 20 to succeed him as Imam and Pir of all the ismailis of the world.

WAFAT OF HAZRAT IMAM Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah, Aga Khan III July 11, 1957 - At forty minutes past midday on July 11, 1957, Hazrat Imam Sultan Mohamed Shah passed away peacefully at his villa in Versoix, Switzerland at the age of eighty leaving behind him a memorable history of his glorious and eventful life.
In his Last Will and Testament, he appointed his grandson, the elder of the two sons of Prince Aly Salomon Khan, Shah Karim Al-Husayni as the 49th Imam and Pir of all Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.
