Our democratic institutions are crumbling. The separation of Church and State has inevitably turned into a separation of morals from government, turning governments into skeletal bodies with little to no moral compass.
Many today believe faith, particularly Islam, is incompatible with democracy and that refugees cannot understand or contribute to democracies, yet the Athens Democracy Forum invited two keynote speakers to address the challenges and opportunities of government: a refugee and a Muslim.

There is something about Kenya that many of our people don't seem to fully appreciate.
This is that we are a vibrant democracy surrounded by authoritarian states. Indeed I would say that some of the nations in our neighbourhood are "militaristic authoritarian states". Think about it for a minute.
In Tanzania, it's only now for the first time that there is a genuine chance of the opposition parties wresting power from the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), which has ruled since independence.
For all intents and purposes, Tanzania has been a single party state for the last 50 years.

Maki and Associates has submitted plans for their first UK building. As the Architects' Journal reports, the Japanese firm has designed a nine story, 8,780-square-meter educational space for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) - a group of non-denominational agencies focused on improving the welfare of people in developing areas in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The predominately limestone building pulls cues from its context; its facade is derived from the space within, which in turn responds to the surrounding Kings Cross site.

SEVERSON: It is very rare for the Aga Khan to grant interviews. We caught up with him in Toronto:
(speaking to the Aga Khan): You are a spiritual leader, a businessman, treated like a head of state. I think you were just with the prime minister yesterday. Which of those hats are most important to you?
AGA KHAN: The institutional hat, which is the hat I inherited from my grandfather.
SEVERSON: As a spiritual leader?
AGA KHAN: As the imam of the Ismaili community, by far.
This Agreement establishes the privileges, immunities and facilities extended by the Portuguese Republic to the Ismaili Imamat.
