Winter sports festival supported by AKRSP in Hunza concludes 2023-01-21

The venue of the event was Attabad lake, however, later it was shifted to Gulkin village in Gojal. The event attracted local people and tourists amid freezing temperature. The event was organised by GB Tourism Department to promote winter tourism in the region and for revival of indigenous games. Iqbal Hussain, director of GB Tourism Department told Dawn that the concept of arranging the seven-day event was derived from the snow leopard.

Posted January 22nd, 2023 by librarian-hdPrince Rahim attended a special event in London on 18 January to honour the contributions of Dr Farhad Daftary to The Institute of Ismaili Studies, and more broadly to the fields of Ismaili and Islamic studies, as he steps down from his management roles at The Institute.
Prince Rahim announced that Mawlana Hazar Imam has decided to acknowledge Dr Daftary’s contributions to The Institute by attaching his name to forthcoming PhD Scholarships awarded by IIS — they will be known as The Farhad Daftary PhD Scholarships.

Aga Khan Gold Cup Golf Tournament begins 2023-01-20
Posted January 22nd, 2023 by librarian-hdThe prestigious Aga Khan Gold Cup's 49th golf tournament, hosted by the Ismaili Council for Bangladesh since 1973, was formally inaugurated amidst a lot of fanfare at the Kurmitola Golf Course on Friday morning.
The tournament was held after a gap of two years due to the pandemic, and is being sponsored by IPDC, Bombay Sweets, Habib Bank Ltd, Mumtaz Herbal, Olympic, Alco Aluminum, and Finis, said a press release.
Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, chief of air staff, Bangladesh Air Force, was invited as the chief guest, and formally inaugurated the tournament by teeing off.

Aga Khan Hospital to install Sh12 billion radiation equipment 2023-01-17
Posted January 17th, 2023 by librarian-hdDar es Salaam. The Aga Khan Health Institute has signed an agreement with Elekta Company for the procurement and installation of radiation therapy equipment that will better cancer screening and treatment in the country.
The equipment which cost between €4.5 million (Sh10.8 billion) to €5 million (Sh12 billion) will have the capacity to treat 50 to 75 patients within eight working hours.
The agreement, aimed at enabling the institute to acquire one of the world’s most advanced machines, will improve the provision of quality health services to Tanzanians.

U.S. to support restoration of Hyderabad’s Paigah tombs by AKTC 2023-01-08
Posted January 12th, 2023 by librarian-hdU.S. Charge d’Affaires, Ambassador Beth Jones on Tuesday announced a $250,000 U.S.-government project to support the conservation and restoration of Paigah tombs in Hyderabad.
Ambassador Jones visited the Paigah tombs complex and announced the project to support the conservation and restoration of six tombs built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Supported by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), it is the fifth such conservation project funded by the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture will implement the project.

Chitral hosted the first-ever girls’ ice hockey competition facilitated by AKRSP 2023-01-07

The girls’ teams from several academies in Upper Chitral battled against the boys’ teams during the uncommon ice hockey event.
Eight teams altogether, made up of both boys and girls, took part in the competition.
The match between the Fox and Snow Leopard teams, which the latter won by three goals, was officiated by Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon, who was present with her daughter.

Posted December 28th, 2022 by librarian-hdHyderabad: A Qutb Shahi monument Shaikpet Sarai will be restored for adaptive reuse under the aegis of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM) by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, Special Chief Secretary of Urban Development Arvind Kumar tweeted on Monday.
Shaikpet Sarai is the latest monument to be added to the list of heritage structures being restored by the Telangana government.
The authorities recently announced that Saidani-Ma Tomb, Sardar Mahal, Mir Alam Mandi, and Mahaboob Chowk Market (Murghi Chowk) will be restored.

Posted December 24th, 2022 by librarian-hdHYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will restore Saidani-Ma Tomb near Hussain Sagar in the heart of the city through Aga Khan Trust, a top Telangana official said on Saturday.
The tomb of Saidani-Ma was built in the 1880s by her son Sardar Abdul Haq Diler Jung, who was the home secretary of erstwhile Hyderabad State and also served as the director of the Nizam's State Railways.
The tomb of Saidani Ma, the lady sufi saint, is a state protected beautiful memorial with stucco decoration and fretwork screens (jaali).
