PRINCE Sadruddin Aga Khan was a wealthy philanthropist who held a string of top UN humanitarian posts and was the uncle of the spiritual leader of Shia Ismaili Muslims.

Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, son of the late Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan and the late Princess Andree Aga Khan, died in Boston Monday, aged 70 after a short illness, said a press release.

An official at one of Prince Sadruddin's foundations said the prince died Monday at a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Details of his illness have not been released.

Prince Sadruddin, a Harvard-educated expert on Islamic art, is the uncle of the current Aga Khan, Karim, who is the leader of the world's 15 million Ismaili Muslims.
