Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa Canada and Agha Khan Development Network in Canada will work together to further promote, motivate and facilitate Canadian and expatriate Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan and coordinate efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was decided during a virtual meeting between Pakistan High Commissioner in Canada Raza Bashir Tarar and, Diplomatic Representative Aga Khan Development Network Dr Mahmoud Eboo in Canada.

Mowlana Shah Karim and Begum Salimah arrive in Ottawa, received by Chief Protocol Officer Mr. L.H. Amyot, the Honorary Secrectary of the Admin. Committee for Ottawa Mr Azeem Motani and his wife Noorjehan. They came as guests of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. (During Hazar Imam's Silver Jubilee visit to the Canadian Jamats, a banquet was held in His honour in Vancouver. A plaque was presented to Hazar Imam by the Deputy Premier which "symbolized the love and support and the appreciation of the citizens of British Columbia." The Mayor of Vancouver in his welcome address also announced that this day had been declared "Ismaili Day")

Q. As spiritual leader of the world's 20 million Ismailis, the Aga Khan is a direct descendant of Mohammed. As a political and a social leader He is a man of enormous wealth and responsibility. The Aga Khan is a friend of the Shah of Iran. Many of His followers live there. I asked Him in Ottawa yesterday what someone in his situation might do when a country such as Iran is thrown into the turmoil and crisis.

It was just eighteen months ago that the Government of Canada announced its decision to partner with the Ismaili Imamat and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in our Global Centre for Pluralism. What we welcomed at that time was a multi-faceted partnership—financial, yes, but also institutional and intellectual.

This year Ismaili CIVIC Day was observed on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in Ontario. More than three hundred volunteers gathered to run a collection drive for supplies for local women’s and youth shelters. Over 7,500 items were collected, ranging from toiletries, non-perishable food items, bedding and much more. In a bid to ensure safety given the current global pandemic, volunteers ran a drive-thru drop-off of supplies over two hours across thirteen locations in the region. The items collected were then delivered to local shelters.

If you have ever visited an Ismaili home or business establishment, you may have come across a portrait of a gentleman who looks like an industry magnate or European aristocratic. He appears too "official" to be a family member, and then there’s the positioning of the image—usually displayed prominently at the centre of a mantle or beneath special lighting.
