The government will consider opening up of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Northern Areas to mobile phone operators. This was stated by Information Technology Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari at a forum on development of telecom services in rural areas, organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) at a local hotel on Wednesday. 'I do not consider opening up of the AJK to cellular phone companies will pose any security threat,' he said.

The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) will be presented as a case study in poverty reduction before the international conference on poverty to be held at Shanghai, China, next month.
This was disclosed during a discussion which was convened at the World Bank office here on Monday as a preamble to the Shanghai Conference. Country director John Wall presided over the discussion.

The Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) will pay Rs 11 billion, or 52% of the bid price, soon after Eid-ul-Azha as the first instalment to acquire management control of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) while the rest of the amount will be paid within the next two years, a senior official of the Privatisation Commission said here Tuesday.After the first instalment, the remaining amount of Rs 11.409 billion, or 51.85 percent, will be paid by the AKFED in two years along with a certain amount of mutually agreed mark-up, he added.

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has announced an initial contribution of Rs30 million in support of the earthquake relief being provided by the government which will be matched by Habib Bank Limited with a further Rs30 million donation towards the President?s Emergency Relief Fund.
A press release issued on Monday also said that AKDN helicopters have been put at the disposal of the authorities to assist in humanitarian efforts.
