AGA KHAN PROMOTES NEW CONCEPT IN THIRD WORLD DEVELOPMENT - 1982-07-30

An agreement providing for the restructuring and expansion of the activities of the Diamond Trust of Kenya Limited (DTK) into the field of merchant banking was signed on 30 July, 1982 at Aiglemont, the Aga Khan's Secretariat near Paris, by DTK, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Samuel Montagu and Co. Limited.

His Highness the Aga Khan, who has had a long and close association with the company, was present at the signing ceremony attended by His Excellency Mr. John Kimani, Kenya's Ambassador to France.

Your Excellencies, Mr Irani, Mr Galliner, Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen

I have rarely spoken publicly in the developing world or in the industrialised world, or indeed in any international forum about the Press. I wish to take this exceptional occasion to pay a deep personal gratitude to a truly remarkable African who was himself at one time a journalist, then who led his country's struggle for independence and who finally became the first President of Kenya, and an outstanding African statesman. I refer to Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The leaders of all African Countries today are faced with the need to raise the living standards of the mass of their peoples from mere subsistence level to a point where men and women can develop the full potential of their minds and bodies. The problem in Africa assumes urgent political dimensions if only because expectations are so much higher than they used to be. This is quite understandable when you remember the hopes that were raised during the battle for independence.

JUBILEE INSURANCE CELEBRATES 50 YEARS - 1986-10-27

To commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the incorporation of the Jubilee insurance Company, a reception was held at the Serena Hotel in Mombasa on 27th October 1986.
Present at the reception were Prince Amyn Mohamed, the Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Adam H. Ali, the Provincial Commissioner, Coast Province, and His Worship the Mayor of Mombasa.

The silver Jubilee Darbar in Nairobi. - 1982-10-05

THE CAVALCADE of cars came into drive way, under the bowing palm trees, past the blaze of rich petunias and salvias, to the huge complex at Parklands. It brought Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah who were to grace a grand Darbar. For a moment one's mind went back to weeks prior to this revered moment. The whole Jamat had been galvanised into action by an announcement that Kenya had been chosen as the first country that Mowlana Hazar Imam would visit during the Silver Jubilee year.

OPENING OF LEATHER INDUSTRIES OF KENYA LIMITED - 1986-10-24

President Moi officially opened Leather Industries of Kenya Ltd. At Thika on Friday 24th October 1986. He said he was pleased to be associated with an event aimed at contributing much towards fulfilling the country's objective of stepping up the processing of Kenya's raw material.

PRINCE SADRUDIN AGA KHANS VISIT TO MOMBASA - 1986-01-05

Prince Sadrudin, Princess Aleya and their friends were recently in Mombasa for their annual holidays and spent a fortnight at their Bahati Villa on the South Coast.
Prince Sadrudin travelled by road from Nairobi to Mombasa after having just arrived by air on Monday 23rd December, 1985. Representatives from the Mombasa Provincial Council welcomed the party at the Likoni Ferry that evening.

Visit of H.S.H. Prince Amym Mohamed to the MIS Review Conference II - Nairobi - 1980-08-04

On August 7th, 1980 H.S.H. Prince Amyn Mohamed paid a special visit to the venue of the MIS Review Conference II-Nairobi, at the request of Count Sir Eboo Pirbhai, President of the Supreme Council of Europe, U.S.A., Canada & Africa.

On Friday 24th October, 1986 Mowlana Hazar Imam declared the new Aga Khan club complex open.
At the ceremony Alijah Sayed Ahamed Chairman of the Nairobi Provincial Council in his welcome address said that the grounds on which the present new complex has been built is of particular significance to the Nairobi Jamat, because it was here that Mowlana Hazar Imam's Takht Nashini was held in 1957.

Imam - E - Zaman Visits Kenya - 1970-12-01

Mowlana Hazar Imam Shah Karim Al-Hussaini paid a five day visit to Kenya, last month. He was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival in Nairobi from Kampala.Imam-e-Zaman who arrived in his private jet from Entebbe, was met by the Vice-President, Mr. Daniel arap Moi, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Njoroge Mungai, the Attorney-General, Mr. Charles Njonjo, Mr. Mwai Kibaki, Minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Mr. Jackson Angaine, Minister for Land and Settlement.
