Posted February 25th, 2010 by heritagePhilanthropists donate Rs20m for oncology facilityKARACHI, Feb 2: The Aga Khan University took a big step towards realizing its dream of setting up a well-equipped oncology services facility when it managed to raise Rs20 million at a dinner on Saturday night , bringing the total amount collected from philanthropists to Rs220 million.
The facility is expected to cost Rs456 million, about Rs216 million of which will be given by the university. This means that only about Rs20 million remains to be raised which, according to the university administration, will be raised soon.

Posted July 9th, 2009 by heritageThe Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development has submitted the names of four directors, Iain Cheyne, Sajid Zahid, Sultan Allana and Zakir Mahmood, as its nominees on the Board of Directors of Habib Bank Limited, to be inducted after handing over of the bank to the AKFED.
Sultan Allana will be the Chairman of the Board, while Zakir Mahmood will continue as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the bank.
Business Recorder understands that the ceremony of completing the privatisation transaction will take place some time in mid-February.

In discussions with Daily Times, HBL executives say current President Zakir Mahmood is unlikely to stay on at the bank and instead Sultan Allana, a director of the recently formed NIB (NDLC-IFIC Bank), Shams Qasim Lakha, president Aga Khan University Hospital and Safar Ali Lakhani, president Soneri Bank limited, are in the running for the top slot.

The sponsors are now just waiting for the promulgation of the ordinance.

The programme being implemented in the Northern Areas (NA) and Chitral in partnership with Aga Khan Foundation and KFW-the German Development Bank, provides integrated water supply, health, education and sanitation services to the local communities on the principle of community participation and self-help.

UK-based trust awards $0.5m grant to AKU - UK-BASED TRUST AWARDS $0.5m GRANT TO AKU - 2003-10-04
Posted July 9th, 2009 by heritageThe UK-based Welcome Trust Foundation has awarded $500,000 research grant to Aga Khan University (AKU) for a study on high blood pressure, designed by Dr Tazeen Jafar, an assistant professor, and her colleagues at university's Department of Medicine.
The Trust is widely known for its high profile in the best academic and research circles throughout the world, and for funding only scientifically robust and internationally competitive research projects. 'It is indeed a great source of pride for the AKU to be recognised as a genuine research university on the international stage,' said Dr Jafar.

The FMFBL was awarded a medium to long term rating of 'A+' (Single A Plus) with a positive outlook, and a short term rating of A-1 + (A One Plus). The JCR-VIS said in a press release, 'The ratings incorporate the management's expertise and the boards' commitment to the mandate of the bank.
