In selecting the title of this address, I had in mind above all, the need for greater efficiency in professional management. The more I reflected on this subject, the more it became apparent that the themes which I wished develop were as valid for many of the richer industrial nations as for the developing world, and hold good equally for nationalised industries as for the private sector all over the world. The economic recession from which we are all suffering has at least shown us where the real weaknesses are.

November 2 marks the birth anniversary of Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah, Aga Khan III, one of the Muslim world’s most visionary and influential leaders.

A tireless advocate for Muslims on the world stage, Aga Khan III was also a champion of women’s rights, education, healthcare and social development. With a modernist view that was nevertheless deeply rooted in the concepts of Islam, he strove to help Muslims build social capital to enable both political rehabilitation and a better quality of life.

KARACHI:

The children of alAzhar Gardens, a gated community of Ismailis, who went to school on Wednesday morning had no idea they will be received by grief-stricken parents on their return.

Several parents were huddled near the community’s gates as the school vans started rolling in. But someone had already told the children about the tragedy and they jumped off the bus with looks of pure terror on their faces. “How many died?” a boy asked his mother.
