Today is truly a special day—and for several reasons.
First, it comes at a special time of the year.

The festival of Navroz is a time when we think about renewal and rejuvenation—when we welcome a new spring season in a spirit of hope and optimism.

And that spirit is very prevalent as we gather here today to mark the opening of a new head office for KICB—and as we celebrate the spirit of forward-looking progress in the Kyrgyz Republic.

On the first day of an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, His Highness the Aga Khan was presented the Order of Danaker by His Excellency Almazbek Atambayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic. The order is the country’s highest recognition given to a foreign citizen for contributions to the strengthening of peace, friendship and cooperation between peoples and for working towards preserving inter-ethnic harmony and the mutual enrichment of national cultures.

Naryn, Kyrgyz Republic, 19 October 2016 - As part of AKDN’s broader commitment to the Naryn area, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture rehabilitated the Seitaaly Jakypov Park, creating space for leisure, play and exercise. On 19 October 2016, Naryn Governor Amanbay Kayipov joined Kyrgyz Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov and His Highness the Aga Khan to officially open the rehabilitated park.

NARYN, Kyrgyzstan (TCA) — The University of Central Asia (UCA), created to be a catalyst for social and economic development in the region’s mountain societies, on 19 October officially opened its first campus in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek, October 18 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev met with visiting Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the Kyrgyz President's press office reports.

At the beginning of the meeting President Atambayev awarded Prince Karim Aga Khan IV the Danaker Order for public activities and the implementation of socio-economic projects in Kyrgyzstan. The President stressed that Kyrgyzstan appreciates the work of the Aga Khan Development Network and attaches great importance to further strengthening of cooperation with the Organization.

Bishkek, 17 October 2016 — Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Kyrgyzstan this evening, ahead of the inauguration of the University of Central Asia’s Naryn campus. He was accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad.

Cholpon-Ata, September 6 / Kabar /. Representing His Highness the Aga Khan, Prince Rahim Aga Khan attended the official opening of the Second World Nomad Games, 2016, at the invitation of H.E. President Almazbek Atambayev. He was amongst 30 other Heads of Delegations, which included Heads of Republics, Ministers and other high level dignitaries, Aga Khan Development Network Representation Office in Bishkek reports.

2009, October 12: H.H. the Aga Khan arrives in Kyrgyzstan today from Tajikistan. The Aga Khan's visit to the Kyrgyz Republic will focus on new initiatives in financial services, poverty alleviation, education and culture. While in Kyrgyzstan the highest guest is expected to meet with President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Prime Minister Igor Chudinov, Foreign Minister Kadyrbek Sarbaev and Finance Minister Marat Sultanov to discuss the impact of the global recession on local economies as well as issues of regional stability, in particular, Afghanistan. 2008, November 6. Kyrgyzstan's foreign minister Ednan Karabaev met with Prince Aga Khan. During the meeting, E.Karabaev welcomed him on behalf of President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev and thanked the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) for rendering material assistance to quake victims in the republic' south. The parties discussed the results of implemented projects and perspectives of cooperation between AKDN and Kyrgyzstan. It was also raised issues about projects, which reflect tasks that set by the President of Kyrgyzstan in his message to the people of Kyrgyzstan.

2008, November 6. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Igor Chudinov and Prince Aga Khan have arrived in Naryn town. The goal of their visits is to familiarize with construction process of the University of Central Asia. The Prince Aga Khan arrived in Kyrgyzstan on three-day visit at the invitation of the republic's government. He had already visited Kazakhstan and Tajikistan within the framework of his tour to Central Asia.

In 1994, President Rakhmonov of Tajikistan and His Highness the Aga Khan conceived the idea of a new university designed to address the unique educational, economic and cultural needs of mountain communities.
