Aga Khan, UCI top in cancer care – report 2023-05-08
Posted May 10th, 2023 by librarian-hdAga Khan University Hospital is the best cancer treatment centre in East Africa in terms of uninterrupted access to essential cancer drugs, a new international study has revealed.
The hospital scored highly for both public and private care.
However, the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) emerged as public health facility in terms of availability of cancer drugs.

Aga Khan University set to open in 2025 2023-04-28
Posted April 28th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan University (AKU) in Kampala, whose construction was launched yesterday, will open doors to its pioneer students in two years.
Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, the university president, said the multi-million dollar education and health complex located in Nakawa Division will be ready by 2025, enabling students to be admitted the same year.
Uganda’s Education minister Janet Museveni and Princes Zahra Aga Khan, a daughter of His Highness and trustee of Aga Khan University, launched the project and engineering works at a colourful on-site ceremony yesterday.

Aga Khan hailed for setting up social services on Kibuli Hill 2023-04-17
Posted April 17th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Kibuli Muslim faction has hailed the Aga Khan for funding the construction of the Kibuli Mosque, which has in turn produced institutions such as Kibuli hospital, schools and other social services.
They said this yesterday while receiving donations of food and clothing from the Esmaili Community.
“Every time you come here, we receive you with a lot of honour and gratitude because of the foundation the Aga Khan planted here. Badru Kakungulu donated 80 acres of land for construction of institutions, which would later benefit many Ugandans,” he said.

Aga Khan Foundation supports people living with albinism 2023-02-27
Posted February 27th, 2023 by librarian-hdThe Albinism Umbrella, an Organisation working with persons with Albinism around the country, has asked government, the European Union, and the Aga Khan Foundation to extend research on albinism, beyond Kampala. Olive Namutebi, the Chief Executive Officer of Albinism Umbrella Uganda, says the 142 million shillings received from the European Union through the Aga Khan Foundation to support their community during the Covid-19 pandemic, enabled them to provide relief to those affected. The call came as the Aga Khan Foundation-supported people living with Albinism at a medical camp in Wakiso.

Aga Khan Ismaili Muslims share Idd with 800 orphans

Kasangati Orphans Fund Society (KOFS) has said continuing food donations received from the Shai Ismaili Muslim community, who are the followers of His Highness the Aga Khan, has enabled them to feed 800 orphans under their care.
Located in Kawanda, Wakiso District, the orphanage is called Kasangati because it started from there with few children but later relocated to near Kawanda following an increase in the number of orphans sheltering at the orphanage.

Aga Khan, UK lottery to fund PWDs
Posted August 4th, 2019 by librarian-hdThe Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the National Lottery Community UK have launched $1m (Shs3.7b) fund for building the capacity of disabled persons organisations.
Under the arrangement, AKDN will provide $500,000, while the National Lottery Community UK will provide $505,000.
The two-year programme will be implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation Uganda, Civ-Source, Independent Development Fund and the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU).
