Prince Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims, met yesterday evening with MM. Mohammad al-Imadi, Minister of the Economy and External Trade, Nasser Qaddour, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Iyad al-Chatti, Minister of Health, Hassan Richeh, Minister of Higher Education, et Mohammad Moufdi Seifo, Minister of State for the Affairs of the Council of Ministers.

The discussion touched on the cooperative relations between Syria and the Aga Khan Institution for Development and the projects that are planned for implementation in Syria.

Prince Karim Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the world's Ismaili Muslims currently visiting Syria - visited the Grand Mosque of Damascus and the Mosque of the Umayyads today, where he was welcomed in particular by the Minister of Wakfs (Islamic goods).

Prince Aga Khan visited the different parts of the Mosque and came to know its history and the recent restoration work done in the Mosque, on recommendation of the [former?] President Hafez al-Assad.

This evening, M.Abdel Halim Khaddam, Vice President of the Republic, received Prince Karim Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the world's Ismaili Muslims.

The discussion touched on the importance of the study of Islamic culture and heritage, as well as the strengthening of cooperation between the peoples of the Muslim world.

Prince Aga Khan had met today with the Mufti of the Republic, Shaikh Ahmad Kiftaro and visited the Mosque of the Umayyads.

The Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the world's largest architectural prize, worth a total of US$500,000, was given away Thursday night to nine outstanding projects in its 2001 cycle at a function held at Syrian town of Aleppo, said a message issued by the Ismaili Muslim Community in Dhaka yesterday.

Le président Bachar al-Assad a reçu aujourd'hui l'Emir Karim Agha Khan, guide spirituel des musulmans ismaélites dans le monde, avec qui il a examiné la situation en Asie centrale et les efforts à déployer par les pays islamiques pour réfuter les accusations de terrorisme, lancées contre l'Islam.
