THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to continue working closely with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in all areas of mutual interest.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk expressed the commitment this week when the organisation celebrated the 65th anniversary of the ascension of Aga Khan to the Ismaili Imamat in Dar es Salaam.

Mtwara. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), in cooperation with the European Union (EU), has given a Sh188.32 million subsidy to entrepreneurs in Lindi and Mtwara regions in order to help them encounter economic effects brought about by the Covid-19.

The subsidy is part of a project run jointly by the EU and Aga Khan to encounter the effects of the Covid-19 in the four nations of Tanzania, Kenya Uganda and Mozambique.

At least 112 groups with a total of 1,290 members in the regions have benefited from the subsidy.

The President announced a new, groundbreaking initiative to support and connect civil society across the globe through the launch of Regional Civil Society Innovation Centers, in partnership with the Government of Sweden and the Aga Khan Development Network. Over the next two years, up to six networked Regional Civil Society Innovation Centers will be created worldwide.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, 30% of the nation’s 39 million people are currently at risk of severe malnutrition.

Dodoma. The government has extended an invitation to his Highness the Aga Khan to visit Dodoma and help the authorities to come up with some world class investment facilities befitting a capital city.

Located in the capital city of Kabul, Chihil Sutun Palace is one of the historic places built by Afghan King Shah Zaman Sadozai in 1796.

The palace served as home for many Afghan kings and emirs.

However, it was severely damaged when the civil wars erupted in the 1970s among the Mujahideen following the fall of the government of Dr. Najibullah.

In 2018, the palace was repaired by the Aga Khan Development Network in cooperation with the German government.

The palace is considered one of the historic heritage sites of Afghanistan.

On November 4, 2011 Governor Patrick J. "Pat" Quinn and His Highness The Aga Khan signed an historic agreement to expand collaboration in the areas of education, environmental stewardship and management, health sciences, library and information sciences, infrastructure development, agricultural sustainability and culture.

Kabul [Afghanistan] November 6 (ANI): The Taliban's spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid said that the top leaders of the group met with the envoy of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Akbar Pesnani, to discuss a comprehensive development strategy for Afghanistan, Sputnik reported.

The Taliban-announced interim government's Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi met Pesnani and the latter briefed on the activities of the AKDN agencies aimed at developing the cultural, economic and social spheres in Afghanistan, said Sputnik.

The training was organised as part of AKF’s Schools 2030 initiative with support from its Local Impact Project. The fight against the coronavirus disease in Uganda has crippled the education sector, mainly early childhood development among others in relation to social and economic issues. Today, the Aga Khan development network, in partnership with European Union, have launched a 9.3 million euro East African regional fund to counter this challenge.
