When Hollywood star Rita Hayworth was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1981 at the age of 62, her daughter Princess Yasmin Aga Khan took on the role of her conservator.

In addition to caring for her mother, Princess Yasmin, who is a half-sister of the Ismaili Muslim spiritual leader, the Aga Khan, also became an early spokesperson for those with Alzheimer’s, bringing public attention to a neurodegenerative disease that few openly discussed.

This April, the Aga Khan Museum celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing with The Moon: A Voyage Through Time. The exhibition, which runs until Aug. 18, explores the moon’s influence on faith, science and the arts across the Muslim world and beyond.

The Aga Khan Foundation, which is involved in the fields of health care, education and rural development, chiefly in Asia and Africa, has now been registered in Portugal, Mowlana Hazar Imam announced during His Silver Jubilee Visit to that country in February, 1983.

The Foundation has branches and affiliates in Kenya, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Britain, Canada and the United States.

he Moon: A Voyage Through Time explores wonder, knowledge, and beauty inspired by the moon through the ages

TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ - The Apollo 11 lunar landing on July 20, 1969, was a transformative event for humanity, yet the moon has captivated cultures since the dawn of civilization. The Moon: A Voyage Through Time is a major new exhibition opening March 9 at the Aga Khan Museum. It pays tribute to our timeless fascination with the moon by exploring how it has inspired spiritual growth, scientific discovery, and artistic creativity.

This December, the Aga Khan Museum transforms the perception that museums are only places for dusty artifacts, when its exterior walls become a massive canvas for Light up the Dark: A 3-D Projection Spectacular.

This video show goes beyond the typical holiday light display by using a technology called projection mapping, which will turn the museum’s white granite walls into a 53 m x 13 m screen where art comes to life.

Visitors will gradually transform the exhibit's empty library to a collaborative donation

With its long shelf lined with white-covered books all housed inside a cavernous room, the newest offering at the Aga Khan Museum looks a bit like an empty, sterile library. But the creative force behind the project hopes visitors will fill it with the knowledge contained in thousands of new textbooks.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here today. Today is a celebration, it is a celebration of Canadians coming from all of Canada to contribute to the quality of life in some of the poorest and most remote parts of the world.

Prince Aly Muhammad attended the World Partnership Walk in Toronto, Canada on Sunday June 17, 2018. He was also accompanied by the Mayor of Toronto John Tory and other Provincial dignitaries and the Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs. Prince Aly Muhammad made a speech in which he remembered his experiences in the Northern Areas of Pakistan where he saw first-hand the results of climate change which have created havoc for the people there.

There are two living world leaders who have celebrated their Diamond Jubilee – 60 years in office. One is Her Majesty The Queen and the other is His Highness Aga Khan. Both assumed their duties at an early age – the Queen at the age of 26 and the Aga Khan at the tender age of 20, while still an undergraduate at Harvard University. John Diefenbaker had just become prime minister of Canada.
The Governor-General of Canada, Julie Payette, is hosting a dinner at Rideau Hall on Wednesday to mark this anniversary and the occasion of His Highness’s official Jubilee visit to Canada.

The first of its kind exhibition has been opened at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada.

The exhibition is about the Fatimids, an Ismaili Shia Islamic caliphate descended from Prophet Muhammad’s daughter Fatima.

The display, which runs until July 2, consists of luminous ceramics, intricate carvings shaped from rock crystals, and artefacts decorated with Kufic calligraphy and embellished with vines and leaves.

It is intended to showcase the life, times and the cultural expressions of the Fatimids.
