Zanzibar’s Tourism and Heritage Minister Hon. Simai Mohammed Said has on Thursday,July 27, met Princess Zahra Aga Khan at the Diwan of the Ismaili Imamat in Lisbon.

The visit comes on the heels of Princess Zahra’s visit to Zanzibar including the inauguration of a Polyclinic in Zanzibar and Mwanza.

Mr Simai Said was accompanied by Mr. Rahim Bhaloo, Chairman of Zanzibar Commission of Tourism

During the meeting Princess Zahra and her guests discussed a wide range of issue which included the activities and presence of the agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network in Zanzibar.

HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE

It is many years since I last visited the historic island of Zanzibar, whose name alights all that is romantic in the imagination. It is with eagerness and gratitude that we will enter, even if only for a few days, into the culture and the historic buildings of Tanzania and Zanzibar to learn from them and to equip ourselves for our debate.

It has been for all of us a very challenging experience to come to an island with such a multiplicity of history and to be able to listen to the problems of building in the developing world and how they are dealt with.

Prince Aly Muhammad Aga Khan has started a week long tour of East Africa to visit AKDN institutions. He will go to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania this Sunday 7th April. After visiting the Aga Khan Hospital next Monday, he will leave for Nairobi

Zanzibar gets new Tourism Minister

(eTN) – The spice and tourist island of Zanzibar has got a new Tourism Minister after a cabinent reshuffle announced Tuesday by the isle’s President, Ali Mohammed Shein.

Mr. Said Ali Mbarouk has been appointed the Minister responsible for tourism, information, culture, and sports, taking over from Mr. Abillah Jihad Hassan, who held this ministeral portfolio for the past two years.
