Rawalpindi : Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for establishing a vaccination centre under Expanded Programme on Immunization at AKUH Saidpur Road, Rawalpindi Branch with an objective of enhancing the outreach for meeting vaccination targets.

A simple ceremony for signing the MoU was organised in a local hotel in the federal capital the other day. Chief Executive Officer of AKUH Shagufta Hassan and CEO of DHA Rawalpindi Dr. Faiza Kanwal were the signatories.

Researchers at Aga Khan University are harnessing the power of stem cells to generate new insight into how malnutrition occurs. The 2018 National Nutrition Survey says malnutrition is a major public health problem in the developing world, with four out of ten children under the age of five in Pakistan suffering from stunting while one in three children is underweight.

Aga Khan University has become the first in Africa and South Asia to be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I).

The university’s departments that were accredited are the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) in Nairobi and Karachi.

“The sponsoring institution applications from Aga Khan University in Karachi and Nairobi were awarded initial accreditation in a peer driven review process,” said ACGME-I Executive Director Lorraine Lewis.

Eight Pakistani nurses and midwives have been honoured in the global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leaders 2020 list.

The healthcare workers have been acknowledged by Women in Global Health (WGH), which collaborated with the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses and International Confederation of Midwives on the list.

All eight nurses and midwives from Pakistan are faculty or alumni of the Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, SONAM.

The partnership was announced during an official signing ceremony held at the university hospital premises in Karachi. Under this partnership, Eli Lilly Pakistan Pvt. The Aga Khan University (AKU) has been placed among the top 100 universities for clinical medicine and the top 200 for public health in the world.

The rankings were published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as ShanghaiRanking, which is an annual publication of worldwide university rankings.

In ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019, AKU is the only Pakistani university featured among the top 500 institutes for clinical medicine and public health.

Kassim Majaliwa launched the completion of the second phase of a US$ 79.8 million (TZS 183 billion) expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, which will enable the institution to serve over one million patients each year. President Yoweri Museveni has said that he is ready for the ground breaking ceremony for the Aga Khan University Hospital in Kampala , Uganda.
The President was yesterday speaking at a meeting he held with the diplomatic representative of the Aga Khan Development Network and a senior executive team from the Aga Khan University Mr. Firoz Rasul at State House Entebbe.
In December 2015, President Museveni and His Highness the Aga Khan laid a brick at the Nakawa site to symbolize the foundation stone-laying for the Aga Khan University Hospital.
