ISLAMIC LECTURE by Sheila Canby - 2008-03-13

2008, March 13: Islamic lecture - Sheila Canby, curator of Islamic Art and Antiquities at the British Museum, will speak on 'Sufis, Shi'ites and Shahs: the Great Shrines of Iran, 1500-1650' at 6:30 p.m. March 13 in Brown Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. Canby will examine the roles that the Ardabil Shrine, the Shrine of Imam Riza in Mashhad and the Shrine of Fatimeh Ma'sumeh in Qum played in establishing Shiism as the state religion of Iran. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for the Southwestern United States.
