MOWLANA HAZAR IMAM RECEIVES PAKISTAN AWARD

Mowlana Hazar Imam was presented with the Nishan in the Order of Pakistan, the country's highest civil award, by President Mohammad Zia Ul-Haq at a ceremony attended by government ministers, diplomats and civic leaders in Islamabad on March 23, 1983.

The Award, according to the official citation, was made in recognition of Hazar Imam's contribution to Pakistan's social and economic development, and to the well-being of the world of Islam.

The citation made mention of his sense of commitment in promoting social and economic welfare activities of Pakistan, of the Islamic Ummah as a whole, and of the developing world.

"In Pakistan, the social welfare works of the Aga Khan Health and Education Services are providing vital medical and educational facilities to a large segment of the population, especially in the northern areas", read the citation.
