MAWLANA HAZAR IMAM HONOURED BY UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

Mawlana Hazar Imam received an honourary degree of Doctor of Literature in Education on Wednesday, October 11, 1989, from the University of London, England.

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University, conferred the degree on Mawlana Hazar Imam during the Founders Day Convocation Ceremony in which he was cited as "a calm voice in troubled times, a world leader, uniquely placed to bridge the cultural differences dividing east and west."

Others honoured during the ceremony included Lord Rippon, former British Cabinet Minister, Sir John Fieldhouse, former Chief of the Defence Staff, Professor Herwid Schopper, Director General of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and Professor Dame Sheila Sherlock, former Professor of Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
