AGA KHAN GETS BIG WELCOME

By Alfred Wasike

The head of the Ismaili Muslim Community worldwide, His Highness the Aga Khan, has arrived in Uganda. He will today hold talks with President Yoweri Museveni at State House in Kampala. This is the start of an eight day tour of his projects in East Africa.

The 60 year old spiritual head of several million followers in 25 countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and North America jetted into Entebbe International Airport at 6:25 pm aboard a personal white, black and brown trtiped Gulfstream plan amidst more then 100 excited, cheering and waving followers. He was immediately decorated with garlands of flowers.

The Aga Khan, whose other name is Karim, was met by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of International Co-operation, Dr Martin Aliker, the Permanent Secretary in the same ministry, Stephen Niobate and other Uganda Government officials.

Dressed in a navy blue suit, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismailia Muslims and accompanied by his brother, Prince Amyn Aga Khan who was dressed in a pin striped blue suit, were led upstairs to the VIP lounge which had been heavily decorated with flowers.

The media was then told to leave the Aga Khan with Alike in the VIP lounge.
