AGA KHAN Health Services, Tanzania, has started to provide high quality healthcare services to the members of the newly formed Tanzania National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in an agreement reached in Dar es Salaam last month.

The move will see NHIF members receiving high standards of care from AKHS health facilities in six centres where the AKHS runs hospitals.

AKHS chief executive officer, Lawrence Hamilton said in Dar es Salaam last Monday that the new partnership with NHIF was important because the AKHS was looking forward to strengthen its relationship with the government of Tanzania.

Mr Hamilton said the relationship would enable more people in Tanzania to take advantage of the services offered by AKHS.

"We are pleased that many NHIF members appear to value the quality of the care we provide.

"I believe that we have put in place the changes needed to ensure that our existing patients as well as our new patients receive the same high standard of care," he said. NHIF Director General Dr Emmanuel Humba said NHIF committed to providing access to high quality health services for all its members.
