Specific purposes and priorities for mountain partnership
Bishkek, October 31. (KABAR). The work of the Bishkek Global Mountain Summit is continued at the plenary meeting in
the Government House. After the speech of His Highness Aga Khan, Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network,
many participants of the programme “International Partnership for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions”
expressed their opinions on significance of partnership for mountain regions in the modern world.
Representatives of UNESCO, UNEP, FAO, ICIMOD touched upon various aspects for necessary partnership. It was
noted that it is necessary to solve problems of mountain countries and common problems of world community such as fight
with poverty, growth of scholarship, communication climate.
Participants of the discussion also raised local problems. Representatives of Nepal, George emphasized the significance of
glaciers as source of sweet water. Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Kyrgyz Parliament has drawn attention of
participants to problem of Kyrgyzstan – conservation of Issyk-Kul’s biosphere, safety of uranium warehouses.
