The Aga Khan, spiritual leader of the Ismaili community worldwide, arrived in Mombasa yesterday for a two-day private visit.
The private jet carrying him touched down at the Moi International Airport at 1.08 pm.
He was welcomed by the chairman of the Aga Khan Council in Mombasa, Mr Alnoor Jiwan, Mayor Taib A. Taib and Cabinet ministers Karisa Maitha and Najib Balala.
Security was tight as local police boss Gerald Oluoch and his team kept vigil at the airport. The Aga Khan held discussions with the ministers and other dignitaries in the presidential lounge.
During his stay at the Coastal town, he will visit projects sponsored by the Aga Khan Development Network.
