PRINCE SADRUDDIN AGA KHAN'S FUNERAL CEREMONIES IN GENEVA

Gouvieux, France, 14th May, 2003- Funeral ceremonies for Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan who died in Boston on 12th May, will be conducted in Geneva, Switzerland.

Arrangements have been made for members of the diplomatic corps, government officials and close friends to pay their last respects to Prince Sadruddin at the Chateau de Bellerive, 25 Chemin du Milieu, 1245 Collonge-Bellerive between 3:00 p.m. (1500 hours) and 8:00 p.m. (2000 hours) on Thursday, 15th May, 2003.

Interment will, in accordance with Prince Sadruddin's wishes, take place in a subsequent private ceremony in the strictest intimacy, attended by members of his family.

Books of Condolence will be open at the following places and times:

Prince Sadruddin was the younger son of the late Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan and the late Princess Andrée Aga Khan (née Carron). He was the uncle of the present and 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Ismaili Muslims, His Highness the Aga Khan. A distinguished diplomat, for twelve years, UN High Commisioner for Refugees, Prince Sadruddin was also widely renowned as the founder of the Bellerive Foundation, a leading grassroots action group promoting environmental protection, natural resource conservation and the safeguarding of life in all its forms. He was also known and respected as a collector, in particular of Islamic art.

Prince Sadruddin is survived by his wife of 31 years, Princess Catherine (formerly Catherine Aleya Sursock) as well as his nephews, His Highness the Aga Khan, Prince Amyn Aga Khan, his niece, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan Embiricos, his cousin, Mme. Francoise Carron, and his stepsons, Alexandre, Marc and Nicholas Sursock.
