MOSTAR: ON THE RECOVERED FACILITIES IN HISTORIC CENTRE OF THE CITY

MOSTAR, July 23 (FENA) – The Press Centre in Mostar today hosted a press conference on the recovered facilities in the historic centre of Mostar and on the facilities that are currently being recovered.

Mayor Hamdija Jahic thanked the City of Mostar and foundations Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the World Monuments Fund, which have participated in recovering 35 smaller facilities in the old city core.

“These are some of the greatest donors in view of recovering the cultural heritage in Mostar. Everything was done under management of expert teams and under professional supervision”, stressed Jahic.

Director of the Programme for Recovering Historic Cities to the Foundation Aga Khan Trust for Culture Stefano Bianca said that the recovered Old Bridge would not represent anything without the recovered surroundings, and that the Bridge together with the old part of town represents an inseparable entirety.

President of the World Monuments Fund Bonnie Burnham said that this foundation was engaged in recovering the Old Bridge as well as in other projects.

“Our foundation focuses on the single most significant facilities throughout the world, especially those that are endangered, and every two years it completes a list of 100 most endangered monuments in the world”, said Burnham.
