President holds talks with His Highness the Aga Khan

Nairobi, Kenya -

President Mwai Kibaki today held talks with His Royal Highness the Aga Khan who paid him a courtesy call at State house, Nairobi.

His Royal Highness is in the country for an official visit during which he will tour the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi and the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa among other engagements.

During the meeting, President Kibaki and His Royal Highness discussed a wide range of development issues including the Aga Khan Development Network’s activities in Kenya.

Established in 1967 as an international group of institutions, the Aga Khan Development Network institutions are involved in development activities focusing on health, education, culture, rural and economic development.

In Kenya, a key principle of the Aga khan Development Network is empowerment of communities to improve their standards of living through initiatives aimed at boosting rural capacity skills and income generating programmes covering education, agriculture, health, rural development and civil society enhancement.

The Aga Khan Development Network is also involved in industrial promotion services focusing on food and agro-industries, printing and packaging and employs over 10,000 people.
