THE CONVOCATION CEREMONY, 2006

His Highness the Aga Khan, Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Chancellor of AKU, presided over AKU's 19th Convocation ceremony, marking the graduation of 273 students in the fields of medicine, nursing and education. The chief guest of the event was Mr Mohammedmian Soomro, Chairman of the Senate, Government of Pakistan. The ceremony was attended by the Chief Minister of Sindh, vice-chancellors, senior government officials, diplomats, national and international academicians, donors, and prominent citizens.

The Convocation Ceremony, 2006 was unique. At last year’s Convocation, the Chancellor of the University, His Highness the Aga Khan, announced the appointment from May 1st, 2006 of Mr. Firoz Rasul as the new President of the University to succeed Mr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, the first President of the University.

At this Convocation, Mr. Rasul was formally installed as the second President of the University through an investiture ceremony during which he was presented with a replica of the University Seal.

Cast in Silver, the replica is in a form of a medallion, which was presented to Mr. Rasul as a symbol of presidential authority and trust.
