Mowlana Shah Karim al-Hussayni Hazar Imam, His Highness The Aga Khan and Her Highness Begum Salimah made a brief stop over at Dacca on their way to Australia. On arrival at Dacca by their private G2 jet plane from Paris in the early morning of Monday, 29th October around 1:30 a.m., Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah were received at the airport by the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister Janab Jamaluddin Ahmed, Chief of Protocol, Industries Secretary, Government Officials and leaders and members of the Jamat. The President was represented by his Military Secretary, Birg. Sadiqur Rahman Chowdhury.
Several Cabinet Ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister for Industries Mr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, Deputy Prime Minister for Power and Flood Control Mr. Moudud Ahmed, the foreign Minister Prof. Shamshul Haque called on Mowlana Hazar Imam during the day.
On Tuesday, 30th October, Prof. Shamshul Haue, the Foreign Minister, hosted a lunch in honour of Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah which was attended by Cabinet Ministers and high ranking Government officials.
Later, the same afternoon, Mowlana Imam, accompanied by Begum Salimah, arrived at Karimabad Jamat Khana to give His holy didar to the Bangladesh Jamat which had assembled there.
In the evening, Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah called on the Honourable President and Begum Ziaur Rahman. Later, they were driven to Bangobhavan where a dinner was hosted in their honour by the Honourable President and Begum Ziaur Rahman. The dinner was attended by Cabinet Ministers and Government officials. Mr. Mohammad Bhai, President of the Ismaili Supreme Council for Bangladesh was also at the dinner.
At the end of a two-day visit, Mowlana Hazar Imam and Begum Salimah left for their onward journey to Australia. They were seen off at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, Chief of Protocol, Military Secretary to the Honourable President, Secretary for Industries and a large number of Ismailis.
Before his departure, Mowlana Hazar Imam told news reporters that his visit to Bangladesh had enabled him to exchange views with the leaders in Dacca on various matters. His talks with President Ziaur Rahman, he said, had covered matters of Islamic concern in the international arena and added that the concerted efforts of the leaders of the Islamic world could contribute immensely for world peace and stability.
